This retro kitchen accent wall idea is the perfect way to get an instant retro kitchen for less than $25. Retro kitchens are a huge design trend in today's hot kitchen design market. Investing in super expensive retro kitchen décor and retro kitchen appliances is just not always an option.

So, try creating this retro kitchen accent wall on the first wall you see when you walk into your kitchen. This way you will see your retro kitchen art the minute you walk in and set the tone for your vintage kitchen with retro flare!

To Make a Retro Kitchen Accent Wall You Will Need:

Paint (Latex flat or semi gloss)

Paint brush

Paint tray

Stencil Brush

Painter's Tape Acetate

Inspiration piece

Exacto knife

Paint pens

So, everyone's retro kitchen accent wall will be different. I will walk you though how to get inspiration to create your retro kitchen accent wall as how to execute it.

I like to use many different retro home decor accents as inspiration for this accent wall. One of the best sources for this retro kitchen accent wall is vintage fabric.

You can use retro kitchen aprons, vintage Feedsack fabric, reproduction retro fabric, or even retro appliances as inspiration.

Take a look at your favorite retro fabric. What color is the background in the fabric. Use this as your background color on your kitchen accent wall. You can take a piece of the fabric to your local home improvement store and have them color match it.

Now, on to creating the accent part of this retro kitchen wall. Take your retro fabric to your local Kinko's. Have them blow up the image on your retro fabric until it is about 5X6 inches.

Just choose one image from your fabric. Once it is blown up you can use this as inspiration to make a retro kitchen stencil for your accent wall.

Lay your sheet of acetate on the image and trace it. Use an exacto knife to cut out the stencil. Try to capture the silhouette of the image. Later you can add detail back in with hand painting or paint pens.

If you are really terrible at painting then have Kinko's print out a ton of your retro kitchen image. Cut them out with an exacto knife.

Use decoupage or wall paper paste to adhere them to the accent wall in yoru retro kitchen in the same way they appear on the fabric.

If you went the stencil route go ahead and start stenciling.

Once your stenciled paint has dried you can use small paint brushes or even paint pens to add personal details to make your retro accent wall look hand painted.

I love this colorful idea for a retro kitchen because it makes a massive statement and can completely redo a retro kitchen for so little money.

When you are ready to move you can easily sand away any decoupaged images or paint over the stencils to neutralize yoru retro kitchen accent wall for the new owners!
