Don't worry; your retro kitchen hardware made from vintage fabric is durable, affordable, and great looking in a retro kitchen.
To Make Retro Kitchen Door Knobs from Vintage Fabric You Will Need:
Heavy great interfacing or craft bond
Vintage fabric, retro fabric, or vintage Feedsack fabric
Pinking sheers
Grommets
So the first step is to go ahead and measure your existing kitchen hardware handles. These retro kitchen cabinet door knobs will be handles, so you will need two holes. You can make these vintage kitchen hardware piece to work on one hole, but they will be a loop, which I personally think looks great.
So, I will give you instructions based on two holes, with quick tips for one hole at the end of the article.
Now, measure how far apart the existing holes are on your kitchen cabinets.
Now, add on at least 4 inches to that. Cut out as many strips of fabric as you need to that length. Make them at least 1 to 2 inches wide.
Now, cut out one strip of your heavy grade super thick interfacing to the same size, one for each piece of fabric.
Iron your fusible interfacing to the back of the retro fabric handles.
Now, one tip is to cut out these strips of fabric with pinking sheers. It is one more retro hardware detail for your retro kitchen.
Now, you will need two grommets for reach retro kitchen cabinet handle.
You want to install you grommets, one at each end of the strip of fabric. Do this about ½ inch in from the edge of the fabric.
Once your grommets are installed you are basically finished.
You can use a washer, nut and bolt to attach the retro kitchen hardware back to your kitchen cabinets! Screw will work fin as long as the screw head is larger than the grommet hole.
I like the washers though; they add an industrial and urban touch to the retro fabric kitchen cabinet handles!
If you do only have one hole, then loop the fabric and match up the grommet holes. Attach as before. If you want you can use one grommet to make the loop, then attach as before.
Hope you like these vintage fabric retro kitchen cabinet door hardware as much as I do!
