Retro System Review: Sega Genesis Firecore Classic Console

There are plenty of retro NES and SNES systems on the market. There are even some systems that play the NES, SNES, and even Sega all at the same time. Having Sega and the SNES together is a bit odd since they were rivals at the time. Many of these systems range from extremely poor quality to good quality. There are very few Sega only systems however. The Sega Genesis Firecore Classic Console is one of the few Sega only retro systems on the market. The big question about the Sega Genesis Firecore Classic Console is if it is any good.

The Sega Genesis Firecore Classic Console does some things that other consoles do not but would be great if they did, it includes 20 popular titles. Yes the Firecore still plays the cartridge games as well but buying the Firecore means you can add 20 game titles to your collection instantly. Also most the games that are already included have good emulation. The 20 games that it does include are a good mix with older and newer games as well as including many genres. Also many games were fairly popular games for the system.

The Firecore company has a bad reputation for its sound emulation and this Firecore system is no exception. The graphics also can have problems particularly with the newer games. The system does come with controllers and allows you to use your own. Many retro systems do not have good controllers but these ones are decent. You also can use Firecore wireless compatible controllers but they are not included. The controllers that the system comes with though are a bit short.

Besides playing regular cartridges the system also allows you to use Firecore SD cartridges. This can mean for a little extra money you can play almost all of your favorite games and even new home brew games. The system is kind of oddly shaped. The system is pretty reasonably priced at around $25 from local game stores, amazon, ebay, or other video game sites. One obvious negative of this system is that you can not save your games. For certain games this is not a problem. However for some games like most RPG's this can be a very big problem.

The system does have some obvious flaws. Most of the flaws are common to retro systems though. Because of the low price and built in games along with the ability to use SD cards for games this game system is not bad. If you are only interested in a Sega retro system this is a pretty good deal.

You didn't even examine the product, did you? I just bought this as a Christmas present and it doesn't have the SD card slot you mentioned. How about being honest about the fact that you just read the manufacturer's description without actually reviewing the real thing?
