Retro System Review: Sega Genesis Gen Core System

There are tons of retro NES and SNES systems on the market. There are lots of systems that play the NES, SNES, and even Sega all at the same time. Having Sega and the SNES together is a very strange because they were rivals when they were out. Most of the systems range from extremely poor quality to good quality. There are very few Sega only systems out there. The Sega Genesis Gen Core System is one of the few Sega only retro systems on the market. The big question you should be asking is if the Sega Genesis Gen Core System is any good.

The Sega Genesis Gen Core System is a retro home console that plays Sega games only. The Gen Core also has 20 built in games. The games that it has all range in era as well as genre. The games on the Gen Core are also all very popular games. It is nice to be able to add 20 games to your collection instantly.

While you do get 20 free games the bad news is that these are about the only 20 games that work on the Gen Core system. The game system has most of all the problems that many retro game systems have. Pretty much if a retro system has a problem then this system has it as well.

The games hardly play except for the ones that are on the system. The emulation is poor quality. The build quality is very poor. Of course the controllers are made really bad. This system only plays for about these two games. The system is very expensive for what you get. The system cost about $40 to $45.

One odd problem with the emulation is that it does occasionally play some games but they play very slowly. Playing the Gen Core is like playing a computer game on a computer that is not good enough to play it. That is if the system even plays the game at all.

I was surprised that the Gen Core worked so badly because it has licensed games. The Gen Core appears to be Sega licensed with pictures of Sonic on the console and box as well as using the Sega name. If it was officially licensed I would have expected much more from Sega.

This is not a system I could possibly recommend. This might be the very worst retro Sega system that you can buy.
