Retro Toys Are Here to Stay

Retro Toys Never Go Out of Style

Rachel Heller
What was your favorite toy in childhood.? What board games do you still play? I love to still play Life, Monopoly, and Clue. I still love to play Clue because I love mysteries. I also still love to play Monopoly because I love buying properties and houses. I also still love Candy Land because I have a sweet tooth. My favorite card is the ice cream float. I also like the gingerbread men. These three games that I have mentioned are considered classic retro toys. It might seem that board games, stuffed animals, dolls, and toy trains are toys of the past. However, retro toys don't go out of style.

Board games are a staple at family game night, There are board games for everybody. Scrabble has been a crowd favorite. It is recommended that people have a dictionary on hand for this game. My mom played Scrabble weekly with a group of friends. This game is great for building vocabulary. In addition, Operation helps with fine motor skills and concentration. I wasn't keen on the game because the buzzer drove me crazy. However, I couldn't get enough of either Connect Four or Mouse Trap. This is because I love science and with Connect Four, I finally felt that I could play some kind of checkers. I also think that Mousetrap helped me catch real mice later on in life. These board games will also be classics.

I am a big fan of dolls and bears. In fact, I collect both dolls and bears. I collect Barbie dolls. I have two Barbie dolls that are based on The Nutcracker. I also have a barbie based on Project Runway. I still have my Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls. However, when I was little, their red hair scared me. I don't have an original teddy bear from the early nineteen-hundreds. However, I have many teddy bears from my childhood. My favorite teddy bear is purple and brown. I also have a Curious George stuffed animal. I remember reading about him when I was young. I read those books to my friend's children now. Moreover, I have a set of the original Strawberry Shortcake dolls. I don't know if Strawberry Shortcake has been labeled as a classic doll yet. However, I think that that doll should be a classic doll someday. This is because she is an inspirational doll to kids all over the world. Strawberry Shortcake might be inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame. This would be "berry" nice.

I am a big fan of silly putty because I liked that I could copy a picture on to it. In addition, it was like clay; I love to play with clay to this day. Moreover, I love to play with Play-Doh when I want to get my creative juices flowing. Yes, it is messy; but it is entertaining and inexpensive fun. Play-Doh is also a classic toy that will never go out of style.

I am glad to see that Raggedy Ann was inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame in 2002. What about Raggedy Andy. He is cute and cuddly too. In addition, Mr and Mrs. Potato Head always made the nicest vegetable couple. Childhood may be fleeting. However, classic toys and games don't go out of style.
