If you are going to advertise yourself, try to keep your tweets personal. Personality can't hurt. I, for one, don't want my Twitter page to look like an infomercial or a list of advertisements. And I want my followers, which seems to be growing daily now, to really care or at least be interested about my tweets and think it would be worthwhile to click on posted links. My articles from Associated Content will always have a fun, personal tag line. If I have a slideshow about chocolate, I simply write: "gtargirl has some chocolate she'd like to share" and then post the AC link. Just my preference, I suppose.
I decided to see if joining the Twitter challenge would not only get my articles out to a wider audience but if I could find a down-to-earth group of people to follow me-people with the same interests. This takes a little time. Along the way, however, people found me and I'm not one to deny any friend requests even from real estate gurus or make-money-online self-proclaimed experts.
Twitter, unlike Facebook or social sites similar, didn't seem personal to me. There was no feedback from your followers. I'm still learning the Twitter curve, however, and observed other Twitters use the @ symbol with the name of another Twitter user typed right after it. Apparently, it's the way Tweeters communicate. There's a lot more Twitter research to be done.
My Associated Content page also received a few more followers, a direct result of Twitter use. You can also retweet content from other AC producers. It all adds to your popularity in the long run.
Recently, I learned that you can earn a nice paycheck from Twitter by retweeting other tweets. This might not be something you are willing to do, or your following might not appreciate, but you can control what you RT (retweet). If you're a very popular Twitter (or is that Tweeter?) you will be paid anywhere between a penny and $20-not bad. Our family has been touched by breast cancer so it was entirely appropriate for me to retweet a link about showing the pink ribbons on your site. If you're interested, log into your Twitter account and look for @paymetweets who you will have to follow in order to find retweets.
My Twitter following has more than doubled and my article earnings have almost doubled. With a little more work, wisdom and Twitter knowledge, I think this social networking can be very beneficial to get content out to more readers.

Post a CommentI don't get Twitter. Guess what you say about having links to your articles would be a good thing. Now to get some articles in print!
I have just started using twitter and am learning.
I haven't been with twitter all that long but I love it short sweet and quick :) plus most of my friends are AC writers :) I'll have to check out @paymetweets I've seen several of those things that are a rip-off though.
Good article. I'm just learning Twitter myself but do find that it's boosted my PVs (a little).
I'm still figuring out how to use Twitter, and found this very helpful. Thanks. And I think maybe the correct word would be Twitterer?
