To date, The Humane Society of the United States sends the furs to more than 200 locations throughout Canada and the United States. They collect real fur, which includes full articles of clothing, accessories, shearling and trim. The furs are cut up to tailor them to size of the animals that needs them.
Buffalo Exchange is a consignment store that partners with The Humane Society of the United States to help collect the furs for the animals. The store started in Tucson, Arizona, in 1974 and now has many locations across the United States and even two franchise stores in Colorado. To find your nearest Buffalo Exchange location, visit the locations page on their website. They collect the furs from the middle of November to April 22. Another option is to mail the furs to The Humane Society of the United States.
If you want to consider your donation a tax deduction, you must mail it to HSUS instead of bringing it into Buffalo Exchange and they in turn will mail you a receipt for your records. For more information on how to claim your donation for tax purposes, review The Humane Society website .
Before sending or dropping off your furs, call your nearest Buffalo Exchange store or HSUS to ensure they are collecting the donations and to find out if they can accept what you have. You can read more about the Coats for Cubs program on The Humane Society of the United States web page or on the Buffalo Exchange "Coats for Cubs" page .
Donating your furs to the Coats for Cubs program can be much more fulfilling than selling them to a store. Even though you won't see what your specific donations do for the animals, know that the furs will help them feel calm, happy and secure, which may also have a positive effect on their healing and their personality.

What a great use for old furs ! When I used to work the church rummage sales, people would donate old furs that were really too worn out to sell. Refurbishing fur this way is a great alternative.
