Afternoon Bedroom Redecorating

If you would like to change the entire look of your bedroom without spending a lot of time or money, simply change the look of your headboard. These easy headboard redecorating ideas can transform your bedroom in an afternoon, using a minimum of supplies, as shown in these Better Homes and Gardens online displays.

Temporary Headboard Redecorating

The easiest way to create a quick change in your bedroom is with a temporary headboard by simply laying a colorful quilt over your existing headboard, as in the above picture. If there is no headboard or frame to drape a quilt over, create a wall-handing by installing a curtain rod on the wall behind the bed, and draping any colorfully patterned flat sheet, rug, or quilt as shown in "Sweet & Simple".

An ultra "Modern Touch" shows how a temporary headboard look can be instantly created by hanging artwork and fluffing lots of pillows against the wall. To achieve a cozy-country look, hang a shelf with hooks above the bed, add tie tabs onto a bench cushion, and tie it up for the night, creating a convertible headboard/bench cushion as shown in "Perfectly Padded".

Change with the Seasons

A great way to have seasonal decorating in your bedroom starts with a neutral headboard, on which you will be adding crafty decorations. Let the headboard display cheerful holiday crafts, and other momentoes as in "Hearts on a String", or with the bulletin-board effect of this "Hawaii 5-OH!" backboard.

Permanent Headboard Redecorating

Use your artistic skills painting a headboard to match favorite quilts, or bedding as illustrated in this young girls bedroom of "Painted Florals", or to paint a more traditionally inspired headboard right onto the wall as in "Elegant Illusion".

Decoupage travel maps over a worn out headboard for an adventuresome boys room, as shown in "Map Quest". Hanging wall panels is another way to create a permanent headboard, as in this "Pattern Happy" padded fabric panel, or a series of painted (closet door) panels as seen in "Door Do-Over".

Shabby Chic Transformations

Why not try something different? Instead of throwing out the old weathered gate you recently replaced, make a headboard out of it, as shown in the "Fabulous Fence". Or hang a brightly-painted front door on its side behind your bed for a uniquely rustic headboard, as in "Open the Door".

Antique-store finds such as stain glass windows could be hung on a wall to create a headboard, or country window panes can be replaced with fabric patchworks, as in "Rustic Influence" or "Hanky Panky". Ornamental railing can be painted and attached to your bed frame for an elegant look, as shown in "Twin Sweet", or for a more casual look sporting a rug, as seen in another "Sweet and Simple".

When you don't have the time or money to redecorate your entire bedroom, try your hand at making a new headboard, or revamping the old one. These examples are guaranteed to give you enough ideas to create the look of a completely redecorated bedroom, using what you have on hand, with only a few minimal supplies. Now it's your turn to get creative!
