Review: 2005 Honda Shadow Aero 750

I bought my Shadow used with 1100 miles on it in 2006. The two-tone paint scheme and availability of shaft drive really sold me on the bike. I had looked at Harley's, Yamaha's and Honda's for weeks. Having owned two Sportster's, I can honestly say that for me the Honda is a much better fit. A low seat height allows for easy footing at red lights. I am 5'11" and I was reaching to touch the ground comfortably. The Shadow also has an adjustable rear shock that allows you to adjust the height of the bike.

The 749cc engine provides plenty of power, for me at least. I drive to work on the interstate every day and have no problems passing or keeping up with everyone else. One con is that the bike is geared very low to get the bike moving with the smaller motor, a sixth gear would be a welcome change. My father's 1100 Spirit is geared alot higher and runs at 65 mph at probably 1000 less rpm. The shaft drive is flawless. My parents live in a rural area on a dirt road that would constantly keep sand, small rocks, etc in a chain or belt drive. This made the shaft drive the only option for me since my father and I ride alot together.

Riding for an extended period of time can be trouble for me on this bike (it's definitely not a Goldwing). I have been researching and it seems that the stock seat is the culprit. Many people have suggested replacing the stock seat with an aftermarket seat. I am looking into this, but have not decided yet. I can say that after about 50 miles or so, my lower back begins to become sore.

The styling of this bike is perfect. With full fenders, a low slung look, wide tank and seat this bike really has an old school look. Many people confuse this bike with a 1200 class bike. This is fine with me since I can get all the looks without the price. Speaking of price, I got this bike with saddlebags, sissy bar, windshield and highway pegs for less than $6000.

All in all, for the beginning rider or the experienced rider who wants a nice bike without the pricetag I would take a serious look at the Shadow Aero. Even if you don't like the retro styling of the Aero there are several other models in the Shadow lineup that will get your motor running.

I bought a new 2005 shadow areo 750 and put 10,000 miles on with out any problems besides regular maintance.I did replace the seat, stock seat killed my back after 1 or 2 hours riding. Installed a mustang seat and what a world of diffrance, been able to take all day rides. I put aftermarket saddlebags, luggage rack and a few chrome parts and at first glance people think its a harly. I will be working on increasing horsepower with after market exhaust, jetting carb and a highflow air filter system. All in all it is a great machine.
