Review: 2009 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show and TV Special

The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show 2009 opened up with a bang, or perhaps what would be better expressed as a BOOM BOOM, POW POW. The Black Eyed Peas took to the stage with their famous energy and dynamic performances and delivered with awesomely fun visual effects and plenty of glow sticks.

During the opening number the Victoria's Secret models strutted their stuff in a mixture of looks. Alessandra Ambrosio was a real scene stealer in a bright pink ensemble complete with the shiniest thigh high pink boots to grace the catwalk. Other wonderful groupings included a bra and panty set featuring back-up suspenders and a one legged polka dot ensemble that was more cute than sexy!

The second number was a little less high energy and featured Victoria's Secret lingerie paired with slightly more sophisticated elements. One model walked the runway with a black veil lifted behind her head while another wore a saucy set covered with a flirty yet almost business-like jacket.

Some more real fun occurred when the Pink line appeared on the V-shaped Victoria's Secret runway. The Pink section was high energy and lots of flirty fun. All of the models shone while showing off the cuter side of Victoria's secret. Fan favorites included a balloon-laden train and a balloon corset. The footwear in this section was very cutesy, though seemingly unstable in a few close-up shots. Darling to behold, treacherous to wear, but all of the models worked the heels with a confident strut.

When the Black Eyed Peas reappeared to perform "Meet Me Halfway," Fergie quickly became a favorite model of the evening in a deep green corseted number featuring a lengthy train to accentuate her highly feminine form. Easily one of the most beautiful parts of the evening!

Heidi Klum opened up the next part of the Victoria's Secret Show, "The Enchanted Forest." The crowd reacted en masse to her post baby appearance on the runway and her corseted outfit was a highlight. Some of the most inventive wings of the evening appeared in this segment as did several romantic elements. Puffed sleeves draped over many an arm while an interpretation of Little Red Riding Hood was spot on gorgeous.

The last full walk for the models before the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show 2009 ended was to the Leona Lewis song "Happy." Marisa Miller opened this portion in a lovely ensemble featuring darker wings and stunning contrasts. Other highlights were a green velvet lingerie set paired with exquisite boots, the appearance of a gold neck brace on Mirnada Kerr, and the runway debut of Kylie Bisutti who won the Victoria's Secret Runway Model Challenge.

The influence of Lady Gaga on the fashion world could be felt throughout the evening with one Victoria's Secret model appearing with head gear and Miranda Kerr rocking a gold neck brace. Several of the other ensembles in the show also contained elements that immediately brought to mind the current Queen of Pop Music.

Wings appeared in this 2009 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in several fun guises. While many of the wings more closely resembled butterfly or fairy interpretations instead of the classic Victoria's Secret Angel Wings, all were stunning. Some great examples are pairs featured in the Enchanted Forest containing gears and deep contrasts and the pair of wings crafted of balloons during the PINK segment of the show.

Victoria's Secret put on a great fashion show to close out 2009 with and will really have to up their game next year to top the performances of both the models and the night's featured entertainers, the Black Eyed Peas.
