My family recently decided it was time to paint our garage. We had planned to buy some fairly expensive paint to do the job. Painting the garage is not something we intend to do again very soon, so we wanted to ensure that we had a high-quality product.
A friend had some Ace Hardware paint that he wasn't going to use. When he heard of our painting project, he offered us the paint. We decided to put the Ace Hardware Royal Shield Semi-Gloss Exterior Wall and Trim Paint to the test.
Of course, for us, the price was great, but in doing a little research, we found the paint from Ace Hardware to be less expensive than some of the similar high-quality paint. Royal Shield Exterior Paint can save you a few dollars.
We tried applying the paint to wood and metal surfaces. We liked the thickness of the paint when applying it to wood surfaces with a paintbrush. A roller application was not effective for this product when applying it to the wood.
The metal surface worked wonderfully with a roller. A thin coat of paint was applied to metal twice to achieve the best results. Although the roller worked smoothly and effectively on the metal, we found that painting the metal with a thin coat of the Ace Hardware Royal Shield Exterior Paint with a brush for the first coat, then using the roller for the second application was easiest.
For the paint sprayer we own, the Royal Shield Exterior Paint was too thick. The paint needed to be thinned to pass through the spray gun. Thinning down the paint may affect the warranty of the product. Longevity is also compromised when the paint requires thinning, so I would not recommend the Ace Hardware Royal Shield Exterior Paint for use with paint spray guns.
Cleanup was a breeze with Royal Shield Exterior Paint. As long as we kept our brushes and rollers wet, we were able to clean up quickly and easily. If the brushes became dry, the cleanup became more difficult. Simply using water to clean up is a definite asset for the Royal Shield Exterior Paint. There is no need to buy expensive cleaners or chemicals.
We allowed our four children and a couple of neighbors to enjoy the project right along with us. Needless to say, a total of eight children and two adults undoubtedly got some paint on them. Using a dab of baby oil, the dried paint rubbed right off of our skin. This method is safe for adults and youngsters alike. This tip made cleanup even better than I had anticipated.
The Ace Hardware Royal Shield Exterior Paint looks great! Our old garage really needed some sprucing up. The finished product makes the garage look better than ever. I would recommend the paint from Ace Hardware. It does a terrific job and can save you some cash. No need to make a trip to the expensive paint specialty store.
