Review of Action 52 (NES)

S.R.
This is a bit of a weird one. Action 52 is generally considered the worst game on the Nintendo Entertainment System. It was released in 1991 by developer Active Enterprises. The idea behind is pretty simple. The developer wanted to package 52 games in one cart then sell the game for two hundred dollars, advertising it as 52 games in one. I'll do my best to break down this cart.

Story : Well there's fifty two ''games'' on this cart but I hesitate to use that word. Most of these games have no story to speak of and can barely be considered games but we'll get into that in a moment. As for the story portions, most of the games are unexplained and are so bizarre you can't even come up with your own story. Think of the most random thing you can think of, and it's probably represented somewhere in this game.

Graphics : Complete and total trash. Everything in this game, graphically, is just the result of somebody being lazy. Everything looks half finished or is just a bland mess of pixels. Identifying things in this game could be a game within itself. There's nothing good to speak of here, even the sprites that should have at least two frames of animation barely even have one. Despicable.

Sound : A total mess of sound, the effects and music in this game is garbage. If you want to hear what bad effects sound like, play this game. Everything is grating to your ears. Most ''games'' don't even have music and when they do it's just a limp song that's totally forgettable and sounds like it was thrown together in a few seconds. Just pathetic.

Game play : Oh boy, the game play. Let's just say that the stupidity of this game is legendary. One game doesn't even start. Yes, you read that correctly. The game is actually Action 51 since ''Alfredo'' doesn't even start, it just crashes. A few other games kill you within seconds of starting them, so it's as if those games don't work either. The rest are equally unplayable though, even if you aren't killed immediately. Some feature obstacles that are impossible to jump over, chasms that are impossible to pass, and a huge section of instant death traps. To put it simply, there is no game play to speak of when it comes to Action 52.

The controls are complete garbage, nothing in this game feels like you can even control it. Most of the time you're just killed by some random thing you can't explain when you're not even touching the controller. It hardly seems possible but if you play this game you'll understand exactly what I'm talking about.

Re playability : Not re playable at all. It's a bit funny perhaps, to check out how broken and non functional the games are but other than curiosity this game serves no purpose.

Overall : 1/10. Probably the worst game released on NES.
