Review of American Idol's March 25 Show: Adam Lambert was Awesome

It's down to the Top 10. It's getting closer and closer to crowning the newest American Idol. The theme of the night is Motown. All the contestants got to pick an awesome Motown hit song to sing. Smokey Robinson was the mentor of the week.

Starting off the Motown night was Matt Giraud singing, "Let's Get It On". In his mentoring session with Smokey Robinson, Smokey said he did more than justice to the song.He started off at the piano and then got up. That was a great decision as it showed his vocal abilities we otherwise might not have seen at the piano. The boy can sing! Randy said he set the tone for the night. He has come up so far and he is challenging the other guys in the competition. Kara said he has come out of his shell. Paula said he was respectful of the melody. Simon called it "brilliant song choice." He called parts in the middle corny. He also said that Matt is a front runner in the competition.

Kris Allen took the stage next singing "How Sweet It Is". Smokey said Kris blew him away. It was a great song choice for Kris. He played the guitar great too. Kara said he did "Kris" tonight. Paula said that he was coming into his own and that he was brilliant. Simon said it was smart and he did own voice. Simon said that Kris does need more confidence, and that he needs to be conceited. I don't agree with that. Confidence, yes. Conceit, no. Randy said it was all good.

Next was Scott at the baby grand piano. I always look forward to hearing Scott. In my opinion, he has a unique voice. He sang, "You Can't Hurry Love". It was a very unique and different version of the popular song. He brought the piano to life again in tonight's performance. Smokey said he is a multi talented young man. Paula said he brought something different. She liked that he brought the back up singers around the piano. Simon said it sounded like he was playing a honky tonk piano and that it was a mess. He said that Scott is better than that. Kara said he has to nail it and that the execution of the song wasn't perfect, but he had rhythm.

Megan Joy picked a Stevie Wonder song, "For Once In My Life". Smokey said Megan was half jazz and half cabaret. He says that Megan is one of the most original contestants American Idol has ever had. She had a unique version of the song. She definitely made it her own. I thought the song choice was okay, but I know she has done better. Paula called her stunning but that it wasn't a great song choice for her. Simon said there was good and bad news. The good news is that she looks good. The bad news is that it was horrible. He called it an atrocious song. Randy said he has mad love for her, but he thought it was a train wreck. He felt it was so bizarre and rushed. Kara said it was all over the place. The phrasing was weird.

Anoop was on stage next singing "Ooh Baby, Baby". Smokey said he felt the song when Anoop sang it. He said that Anoop blew him away. Anoop has the voice for those slow and romantic songs. I thought he did a good job. For some reason I am always surprised at how good of a singer he really is. Randy told him to turn it back next week. Kara said she connected to parts of it, and that he did pretty well. Paula said he has a new found confidence. He was sweet and tender. Simon said it was a great vocal, but that he looked half asleep. He said it was a little boring. Compared it to a musical.

Michael Sarver was up next singing, "Ain't To Proud To Beg". It started off really strong. At first I wasn't sure about the song choice, but it turned out to be a good one. Thought he did a great job. One of his best performances of the past few weeks. Randy said the song was too big for him. Said he is not an R & B dude. It wasn't the right choice. Paula said it sounded like a Las Vegas lounge song. She said that he needs to be dominating the song, not the other way around. Simon said he couldn't wait for it to end. Simon also said that Michael has no chance of winning based on those vocals. Said it just wasn't good enough. Kara said she wants to find out who he is as an artist.

Lil Rounds sang her version of "Heat Wave". Smokey said Lil could sing the phone book. Lil was definitely in her zone, although I feel she could've done better. Randy said the front of the song was a little bit torture. Said it wasn't her best performance. Kara said that everyone was waiting for her "Diva Performance", but that she didn't nail it. Says she needs more from her. Paula said she disagreed with Kara and Randy. She thought it felt fresh and that she owned the song. Simon said he thought it was an authentic tribute, but that he wouldn't have chosen that song.

Adam brought his uniqueness to the stage once again in tonight's performance. He sang, "Take A Good Look At My Face". Smokey said he was proud of Adam's interpretation. Adam had a little bit of an Elvis look going on tonight. Very cool hair! Great song choice! His performance tonight was100% better than last week's massacre of Johnny Cash's "Ring Of Fire". He had some awesome vocals. Randy said he is not only a rocker but he can also change it up. He said it was unbelievably hot! Simon said it was THE best performance of the night. He said it sums up what everyone has been trying to say tonight. Paula said that he has the element of surprise, and that he looked very handsome and classy. Kara said it was one of the best performances of the night, and that he showed artistry.

Danny Gokey's song choice was, "Get Ready". Smokey said he knows that people are gonna love it. I thought it was a great song choice for Danny to show his vocal ability. He has a very unique voice. Danny could definitely sing the phone book, in my opinion. Randy said that Danny reminded him of Levi Stubbs and that he loved the energy. Kara said she loves his personality. She said it was good, but not great. Paula said that Danny is undeniable and identifiable. Simon called his performance clumsy and amateurish.

Allison Iraheta was the last contestant on stage. Her song choice was, "Papa Was A Rolling Stone". Smokey said he feels she is going to do really well. I thought it was an excellent song choice for her and fit her voice well. She was really able to show off her vocal ability. Randy said she was one of the "dopest" singers in the whole competition. Kara was very excited about her performance and said Allison was amazing and exciting. Paula called her performance awesome, amazing and that she belongs in the competition. Simon called Allison a survivor and said this was the best performance she has done.

Looking forward to tomorrow nights results show. Stevie Wonder will be singing!
