Open Thursday through Saturday, the Amish travel at least two hours every week to offer the people in my area, who are very much use to processed, prepackaged foods and take-out, some of the best homemade foods they have to offer. They work long hard days every weekend and their hard work shows.
When I visit the market, not only do I stop by the bakery department, but the premade foods counter teasing me to come over. If I am not in the mood to cook that night, this is the place to go. Smoked turkey legs, premade chicken tenders filled with flavorful spices, buffalo chicken wings, homemade kielbasa, creamy macaroni and cheese, fluffy mashed potatoes, and so much more just calls out to me to buy them. And I do.
The counter next to is conveniently packed with homemade side dishes. The sweet bacon-flavored Lima beans are a favorite, as is, the broccoli salad filled with chunks of cheese and cauliflower. Here you can also get pickled beets, chicken pot-pie and many other Amish-inspired dishes.
If it's lunch you want, you can either go to the sandwich stand where they will make you mile high sandwiches where you can pick and choose what you want it or you can visit the deli counter to take home Lebanon bologna, ham, turkey, a plethora of cheeses and so much more.
The meat counter is a great place to get fresh meats. You can really do most of your grocery shopping here.
Then there is the candy section. I favorite, yet dangerous place for me. Asher's candy awaits here along with small bags of gummy candies, pretzels, potato chips and any holiday related items.
And then of course this is the homemade pretzel stand, much like Auntie Ann's only better. This line is always a mile long, but always worth the wait for steamy hot, buttery pretzel. You can even get toppings or fixings on your pretzel.
Once your are finished with the food section of the Amish Market, it's always fun to shop the other stores. There are plenty of homemade wares including beautiful wood furniture, some of which can be made to order. A country decor shop has things to compliment whatever furniture you buy. And if it's outdoor things you need, they sell beautifully crafted sheds, gazebos and swing sets for the kids.
But don't head into the Amish Market broke. Rather go in with money or credit card and come out broke! You can really go through some cash since so much of the items there are really expensive. I believe that it is worth it though. Their homemade products will last a long time and the fresh food is sure to be enjoyed!
