Review: Arm and Hammer Laundry Detergent Plus Softener

Orchard Bloom Scent

Jamie Burke
I have sensitive skin, as well as a lot of other people do, too. So when it comes to laundry detergent, I have to be very careful what I buy. I learned a long time ago that Tide has something in it that just makes me itch all over. It's not the only one, but it's the worst for me.

Others that I've tried and just didn't work for me were Cheer, All, and Gain. I know a lot of people that use these products and they just think they are great. Some even use the store brand or off brand. But for me, I'm very happy with the Arm & Hammer brand. When it first came out I knew I had to try it. Maybe it was my grandfather's voice - he used A & H baking soda to brush his teeth. Maybe it was just intuition. I don't know. But I knew I wanted to give it a try.

I'm glad I did. My laundry comes clean and I don't itch. It is also very cost-effective. For around $4 to $5, I can wash approximately 50 loads. The bottle says more like 36, but I always use less than suggested and can make it stretch just as far as I can. It averages out to about 10 cents a load.

A & H leaves my laundry soft, clean and colorful. I've used different scents and ones with different additives, such as Oxy Clean, and they all work very well. My husband gets very dirty at his work and his clothes always come clean with A & H, even using the smaller amount. He doesn't complain of the scent of the detergent being too strong or too floral for him. Most of the time, he doesn't slow down enough to even pay attention to his clothes. But, if it had a strong after-scent, he probably would have said something about not wanting to smell like a flower. It leaves just enough scent to make sure the clothes are smelling clean and fresh.

Overall, I would highly recommend Arm & Hammer Laundry Detergent to anyone that just hasn't found the right one yet. As silly as it seems, it does matter what you put next to your skin and how it makes you feel.

Has Arm & Hammer stopped making its laundry detergent with OxyClean? I used to order it online with my groceries, but both Giant and Safeway stopped carrying it. I haven't checked with stores yet, but I'm going to. I really like this detergent. I saved money by not having to buy Oxyclean spot remover by itself. (Maybe OxyClean was losing money????)
