Review of the Asus M2N68-AM SE2 Barebone Computer

Barebones Maybe, but Well Built

I have always been the guy that has to put his computer together himself. I just don't trust the computer, unless I have had my hands deep into the guts.

I found the Asus M2N68-AM SE2 Barebone Computer at Circuit City for $419.99, and got an additional $20.00 off the price for a rebate.

The Asus M2N68-AM SE2 Barebone Computer had everything I needed for my new computer.

The processor is an AMD Quad Core 2.3GhZ, which is blazing fast. The Asus M2N68-AM SE2 Barebone Computer has a 750GB Seagate hard drive, I cannot imagine filling that thing up, but I sure going to try! 4 GB of memory and this system rocks!

I got the components home, and decided it was time to teach my daughter how to put a computer together. (Since this is for her, it was only appropriate. ) She is 15, so I figured I was safe!

I walked her through placing the processor on the mother board, and then installing that in to the tower. The Asus M2N68-AM SE2 Barebone Computer tower has decent space to work with, so even a novice did not have any problems with the installation.

One downside was the onboard graphics which was an nVidia Geoforce. It is not a bad graphics solution, but she likes to play games, so I got her a ATI Radeon to install. We had to jumper out the onboard video to install it.

Buying this at Circuit City solved a problem I had seen from people who had bought the Asus M2N68-AM SE2 Barebone Computer online. One of the minor complaints I had seen was that the case was arriving dented. I double checked everything before I allowed my daughter to start putting her system together. Her case was fine.

The Asus M2N68-AM SE2 Barebone Computer has a 500watt power supply, which is more than adequate to power everything included. I was impressed with what was in the system, the DVD player is a high speed Samsung, which I have used before in my own system.

It is an experience watching a kid put together her own computer for the first time. The Asus M2N68-AM SE2 Barebone Computer went together easily, and then we got to the fun part. Firing it up for the first time.

We double checked everything, and then plugged it in. The moment of truth. Whir, click, beep. The Asus M2N68-AM SE2 Barebone Computer powered up, and came up with the words "no operating system found"

I was able to help my daughter install Vista on the Asus M2N68-AM SE2 Barebone Computer. She got all her games, and other software installed without any problems, and now I don't come home and find her on my computer.

She has been running the Asus M2N68-AM SE2 Barebone Computer for about a week and a half, with no problems. If you want a great barebones system, get the Asus M2N68-AM SE2 Barebone Computer.
