Review of Atkins Daybreak Bars

Kelly Morris
After my gastric bypass surgery, I was advised to increase my protein intake. However, due to my surgery, I cannot eat very much food at one time. I needed to find foods that contain a lot of protein in just a small serving. I also have a problem with my blood sugar dropping too low so I need to eat small meals frequently. On busy days, when I'm out and about all day, I need snacks I can carry with me.

Protein bars serve my purposes well. Lots of protein in a small serving and easy to toss in my backpack or keep in my car. Some protein bars taste better than others, though, and some are pretty expensive and have to be purchased at health food stores on ordered online. Some are not even that healthful and have far too much sugar for me.

Atkins Daybreak bars are one of my favorite protein bars. They are readily available in many grocery stores and they are reasonably priced.

Even more important, Atkins Daybreak bars are absolutely delicious. They resemble name brand granola bars in taste and come in delicious flavors like apple crisp, cranberry almond, cinnamon bun, peanut butter fudge crisp and chocolate chip crisp. The cranberry almond bar has whole dried cranberries and plenty of slivered almonds and the apple crisp bar is made with real apple puree, so it has a genuine apple taste.

Unlike some name brand granola bars, Atkins Daybreak bars are good for you. They contain an average 130 to 150 calories, which is common for a granola bar. However, they contain an average of 10 grams of protein and only a gram or two of sugar. That's about twice as much protein as a typical granola bar and less than half the sugar in a typical bar. They are good for you, but tasty enough you could feed them to your kids and feel good about them having a good snack, too. My partner, who hates most protein bars, loves the Atkins Daybreak bars. If I want a box to last very long in the house, I have to hide them from him.

If you're looking for a protein bar or just a healthful snack, I encourage you to give these a try.
