Review: Aunt Jemima Ham & Cheese Omelet with Seasoned Home Fries

My wife did some grocery shopping Thursday night after work and, since I was taking Friday off from work, she decided to pick up some frozen breakfasts for everyone to eat the next morning (she would normally just make breakfast, but she still had to be at work).

The breakfast she picked up for me was a Ham & Cheese Omelet with Seasoned Home Fries from the Aunt Jemima brand. When I saw this breakfast, I wasn't really sure what to think of it since I have had plenty of frozen breakfasts in the past that contained eggs and was never all that impressed with them. And, even though I know I've had this product in the past, I couldn't remember much about it (I think that's because it's been at least a couple years). But, since she did buy it for me, I had no problem trying it the next morning with an open mind.

While still not as good as a freshly made omelet breakfast, I had had to admit this was much better than I was expecting it to be.

One of my biggest problems with frozen eggs is they are always either really dry or rubbery. That wasn't the case with this breakfast. Yes, there was definitely a difference and there was no way of mistaking this for an omelet I made myself. But, it wasn't as terrible as so many others I've tried in the past.

Helping the omelet was the ham and cheese inside it. A lot of other frozen products like this likely would have skimped on the ham. But, there was actually quite a bit inside this omelet and that, and the cheese, helped disguise any lack of taste caused by the eggs being precooked and frozen.

I wasn't as big of a fan of the potatoes as I was the omelet because those did end up being a bit overcooked and were kind of rubbery. However, they also weren't too terrible and did make the overall breakfast (which seemed to be a bit on the small side at first) much more filling than expected. I was able to finish it without any leftovers but I also wasn't searching for something else to eat.

In fact, I think, overall, I was pretty happy with this breakfast. I don't think it is something I would buy on a regular basis. But, if I were looking for a breakfast that was fast and easy to make, I would consider this one again.
