Then wait about 5 minutes for it to fill. When it's full, you remove the cartridge from the base and from the ink tank and slowly replace the stoppers. You will need to make sure to not tilt the cartridge and base into the tank. It has to go in straight up and down. Another thing to watch out for is, you need to slowly remove the stoppers, and slowly put them back on. Do not be in a rush, or you will get ink on your fingers.

The tray that you place your ink cartridge into has a rubber rectangle that prevents any leakage when filling takes place. The universal ink refill system doesn't have this, and that's why you get a mess or it doesn't fill properly.
