Averatec has brought a refreshing new design to their laptop line with the 3700 series. This feather light computer offers great specifications at a bargain price, including strong power, a long battery life and an attractive design.

The Averatec 3700 series notebook is a great looking and even cute laptop that takes portability and power to a new level. It has a simple, compact design with nothing sticking out and slightly rounded corners. It is a simple white color with a silver trim on the rim of the cover bearing the logo Averatec.

This thin notebook is not flimsy by any means. No hinges are on the cover but when closed, it stays closed. It opens easily and stays open during use. The screen is large (12 inches) with 1024 x 768 resolution. The quality of the Averatec screen is bright with good contrast of colors. The speakers on the Averatec are excellent quality and plays music and recordings clearly and loudly. The volume is adjustable; however there is not as much contrast between low and mute as I would like.

The Averatec is compatible with Microsoft Windows XP Home. At 512 MB DDR and 80 GB HDD, the capacity and processing is nothing short of impressive. In addition, it has wireless, DVD and burner capabilities built in making this machine extremely useful. The Averatec is ultra light, weighing only 4 lbs, making portability truly excellent. I have used this computer for extensive travel the last two years without a problem. It has stood up to daily use, travel and has shown no signs of wear and tear; however, the sticker on the right hand side of the laptop has some wear on its lettering, probably from the extensive typing I do.

The fan on the Averatec 3700 is not loud, although at times it will come on during extended use. The Averatec does not heat up as other laptops do and has been safe to use on my wood dining table. On occassion, when the PC is on for a long time or when leaving a document open for extended periods of time without typing, I have had to restart the machine as I have found the keyboard to no longer allow me to type. This has been the only drawback to the Averatec; however, it has only happened about a dozen times in two years.

The keyboard is small yet big enough to effortlessly type and utilize without a mouse, although you can choose to use one if you wish. I quickly was able to get used to typing on this compact Averatec.

The DVD is to the left of the keyboard and can be opened by simply pressing the button that is flush to the computer. It has not opened on its own without being pressed first. In addition, the Averatec includes capabilities for use with a digital computer. You simply insert your photo chip and the photo files appear on the screen. The Averatec has enough power to watch movies or download video or TV clips. The right side of the computer has 3 USB slots.

At under $1,000 the Averatec offers excellent power, attractiveness and extremely good portability. Its compact size and good power gives it an edge to any other laptop on the market. At one inch thick, 4 pounds light and with its sleek design, you can't get better for portability. With its 80 GB hard drive, built in CD/DVD and wireless capacities, the Averatec offers you the integrated capabilities few lap tops offer at such an affordable price.
