I found my solution in gel eyeliner. The first gel eyeliner I found was FluidLine by MAC, which cost $14.50 for a .1 ounce pot. I bought macroviolet FluidLine, and loved the results.
When I saw that Avon had a gel liner, I wanted to see if it could be a cheaper alternative. Avon's Daring Definition gel eyeliner sells for just $7 and comes in the same size.
This is a great product. It comes in a .1 ounce glass pot with a black lid with silver lettering. The packaging is attractive - the glass pot is satisfyingly sturdy and the black lid gives the product a nice high-end look. The glass pot tapers toward the base, which gives you less to hold on to as you unscrew the lid, so that is the only drawback regarding its packaging.
You have to apply it using an eyeliner brush. For a defined line, dampen the brush before applying the liner. I like to apply the liner with a dry brush for a softer look. Using a brush may seem like more of a hassle than using an eye pencil, but now that I'm used to it I find it gives me more control than the pencil. Using a brush makes it easy to apply the product without tugging at the skin around the eyes. Avon sells a flat liner brush, but you can purchase liner brushes with a fine tip elsewhere, which is what I prefer. I wash my brushes with eye makeup remover.
Avon's Daring Definition gel eyeliner comes in black pearl, brown pearl, and black/brown pearl. The eyeliner has a slight shimmer to it which is very pretty. The consistency of the product is easy to work with; it seems to get less "waxy" than my FluidLine did.
Toward the end of the day as it wears off it tends to fade away rather than flaking onto my under-eye area. The gel eyeliner stays put really well even on hot days when I am active outdoors. It is nice to be able to wear it without having it backfire on me.
