Review of Bancroft Hall Apartment in Virginia Beach

Emma
Finding an apartment is a tough thing to do especially if you don't know the area. If you're living in the Virginia Beach area or are looking to move there this review may prove helpful to you. The apartment complex is called Bancroft Hall and it is off of First Colonial Road, just past Hilltop.

They have one, two and three bedroom places available. They rent both apartments and townhouses. Rent varies depending on the size you need and whether you choose a top floor or bottom floor apartment.

Let me start with the good things this complex has to offer. The size is great for the price. The master bedroom has a large double closet perfect for any couple needing the space. Other storage isn't the greatest here. The two bedroom apartments have two bathrooms which is great for roommates wanting separate bathrooms. They do allow pets and the pet fee is pretty reasonable. It is also very close to a great shopping area and just minutes from the oceanfront.

Now, let's move onto the not so good things about this complex. The appliances are very outdated. They started remodeling when I lived there a year ago but only got halfway through before disappearing. I had my bathroom cabinet and faucet replaced with a brand new one and that was the extent of the remodeling. The complex promised the bathrooms and kitchens were going to be redone, but they still have not.

There are no washers and dryers provided in the apartments, they only offer a laundry room on the premises. The washers and dryers are pretty basic and they don't supply enough for the amount of people living there. There are five sets for about eighty apartments. The machines are always breaking down and take at least two weeks to fix when there is a problem.

They do have a decent swimming pool but the lifeguard has to be there to open it. The lifeguard is rarely on time so don't make plans around it. The pump or some other piece of equipment breaks every summer and the pool will be closed for at least three weeks.

The worst part about this complex is the maintenance. Trouble calls take forever to be answered and when they finally are the people that come out can rarely fix the problem. Every summer our air conditioning would break at the hottest point of the summer. It would flood water all over our carpet and refuse to keep the apartment any cooler than 85 degrees. The first time it took the maintenance team four days to come out to our apartment for the first time and eight days total to fix the problem. The second time it took eight days for the initial visit and all they did was put a fan on our carpet to dry out the water accumulation. After twelve days we finally had cool air again.

Our kitchen sink would also back up all the time as the disposal didn't work properly. Sometimes it would just take something like cereal to clog up the sink. It always took at least two days to get them to come out and snake our drain.

Overall, I was not impressed with this complex after the two years that I lived here. I suggest you stray away from this place unless you're looking for somewhere cheap and can deal with the hassle of no maintenance help.
