Bark Busters has a different approach to dog training. They believe it is better and more effective to train the dog in her own environment, her "den". After all, that is where the problems occur, and where her humans will be working with her. Their techniques are gentle and hands-off, taking advantage of how the dog communicates-body language and voice control-utilizing unique approaches such as "growling" at the dog with a deep BAH, and using a training aid that is a sack with some metal pieces in it. Thrown near (not at) the dog, it mimics a dog's snap, which in dog language is the final warning before a real fight ensues.
The Bark Busters' "Therapists" spend quality time in the clients' house, first with a sit-down presentation covering everything from what is mentioned above, to how nutrition can affect the dog, and what the best foods are. Then they do hands-on training with the dog, and also with the owners. At our session, we worked on her response to people at the front door, we learned how to be "leaders of the pack" by teaching her that we always lead through doors, and worked on leash control ("heel"). We were then assigned "homework" with a chart for five weeks of working with Mocca on the problems he perceived. He also gave us plenty of handouts detailing training methods.
Overall, our experience with Bark Busters has left us with the confidence that we can make Mocca better behaved. We have noticed drastic differences in the first couple days, including the fact that we can finally sleep with the dog outside of our room, and the door shut, something we have not been able to do since she arrived four months ago. There are still some problems, but now we have the tools we need to work on them. We also have the confidence of having our Therapist to rely on. We know he is coming back in a few weeks, and if there is any problem in between, we can call or email him. Bark Busters is very involved, very family-friendly, and very supportive.
This review is specifically of the Bark Busters Therapist in the Tidewater area of Virginia. There are Bark Busters representatives all around the United States, as well as Australia (where Bark Busters began), New Zealand, the UK, China, Canada, Israel, and Taiwan, and they are always expanding. You can view their American website at www.barkbusters.com, and there are links to the other nations' sites there. Though they are around the world, their training methods are the same, and effective. The hardest part of training our dog has been keeping constant with it every day. It does take commitment on the part of the owners, but if you are looking for a trainer who will be there to support you in that commitment, Bark Busters is an excellent choice.

Post a CommentAs a dog trainer the method described in the article about throwing a sack of metal pieces near the dog is repulsive. It's these kinds of compulsive methods that makes dogs with fear and aggression issues worse than before. Bark Busters has no right claiming that they use gentle methods.

I am surprised to see that of all the reviews of this company online, the majority are negative.
Unfortunately, I am not lucky enough to receive a refund as other unsatisfied users have, and am instead $650.00 poorer and left with a dog suffering from the problems I initially sought counsel for.
I'm guessing Bark Busters teaches all of their trainers to deal with unhappy clients in the same way - lie and state that their techniques were never implemented.
Sharon Kondash of the Bark Busters in Maryland is the worst dog trainer I've ever had the displeasure of associating with. I was told to forget about my dog and simply get a new one, before hearing about what breeds she thought would be better for my family.
If she wasn't accusing me of not ever trying to help my dog (which is rediculous because if I didn't want help, I wouldn't have called in the first place) I was listening to her try and sell me collars, food or a sedative to drop in my dog's water called 'Resue Remedy'.
I do not believe that Bark Busters techniques work and that the problem does not lie within the owners of the pets, but within the actual methods themselves. Domestic dogs simply do not respond to growls, etc the same way wild ones do, which is what Bark Busters is based off of.
I am surprised to se
We have a 19mnth Great Dane who unfortunately we have ruined since she had a major illness when she was a pup. We treated her as a baby and she has ruled the roost! Anyway she has got worse and worse, she just completely disobeys, pees, pulls on her lead, no recall i could go on, this is the 6th Dane we had so we are used to big dogs and have never had an trouble from previous dogs. I had my first session from Zoe White on Saturday. She explained everything very clearly, she answered all my questions but mainly she gave me some HOPE! W e did a short training exercise with treats using the BAH word. On the 5th go my dog completely obeyed! I was shocked, this doesnt ususally happen, she explained why she behaves like she does and it all made sense, we still have a very long way to go but for once I am very hopeful.
I was very disappointed with the Barkbusters in Calgary - were WILLING to do a follow up 6-8 weeks after but was like pulling teeth... basically told me my dog may never be ok around other dogs and that I should get used to that idea...
How to train it to bark? Your further advices are very much appreciated as I have been looking high and low online and only found how to stop the dogs from barking.
Thanks, Agnes
I used them in Colorado too, but I had a horrible experience. My trainer was a no-show and didn't respond to e-mails. what a waste of money!
i used bark buster in Denver an had amazing results -worth every penny
We had Barkbusters in Wales and I would not recommend anybody use them. We paid for a lifetime guarantee, which is costly and had a couple of trainers. They all contradicted each others training methods and we found a lot of what theY were teaching our dogs was not working.
They also use a lot of equipment such as water bombs and water sprays to correct behaviour and unless you are willing to go out armed with equipment in case they misbehave, don't bother contacting them, save your money and invest in a good dog training book and contact your local dog class.
I am now in the middle of a Dog Psychology course and being trained by an ex police dog trainer and I am now realising that a lot of the methods Barkbusters taught us to use on our dogs, is total rubbish and has confused our dogs, as we are now having to train differently.
The biggest reason for not using them again, is that we were advised to feed them raw chicken. Stupidly, we should've checked with our vet before
OP, thanks for your posting.
I believe that customer REALLY find out what a company is like when something DOESN'T work out. Good, organizations look at that as an opportunity to create loyalty by fixing the issue. They certainly don't blame the customer.
