Review: Bayern Beer of Missoula, Montana

A.L.C.
From the land of the big sky comes a wonderful beer called Bayern Dancing Trout. A friend of my sister recommended it when we were wandering through Red Lodge, Montana, one of our favorite places. This beer is a light tan color and has the full flavor a true brew should have. Many big name beers in the U.S. are watered down versions that taste a bit like beer water when compared to European brews. Especially the "Lite" versions.

Not this beer. Bayern Dancing Trout is one of the best tasting beers I have had in quite a while. It is full bodied with a, well, true beer taste. The last time I tasted such good beer was in Bavaria. True that, if you know what I mean. Bavarian beer is fantastic.

So is Bayern Dancing Trout,(henceforth BDT). My first sample was properly chilled(I Know we just cannot get used to warm beers no matter how good), and poured into a pilsner glass with a perfect healthy head on it.

Pure bliss.

This beer tasted smooth, a bit smoky, I don't know why, and a tad, just the right tad, bitter. It is a good solid quality beer brewed here in the U.S. that I would compare to any European brand(I know we are heavy handed competative Americans). It is indeed that good.

My friends say this beer goes well with sandwiches, chip and dip, crudites, a good non-filtered Camel cigarette, and while watching a movie or sporting event. They say, and I kind of agree, it is not a beer you would just pop open and drink. It is the type of beer you would savor and serve.

BDT is not expensive and I am not sure if it is offerred everywhere. I would highly recommend it. Unlike many of the hugely popular diet beers being foisted upon weight concious consumers this is a true example of what real beer should be. It is a beer to be enjoyed as beer has been enjoyed for centuries. BDT is a full 12 ounces, not 10, not 5. Its alcohol content is 5.3%. The true beer fan would enjoy this beer. I am not sure what Bayern refers to but I suspect it relates to beer from Bavaria or Germany.

This past Saturday we served it along with crudites, crackers and sliced pepperoni and capocollo during a boxing match. The taste was wonderful. I believe this beer would also taste good alongside a good rare steak or fresh oysters. I do not think it would match up well with fish, poultry, or most pasta dishes.

Your friends will thank you. And of course things taste much better in RedLodge. Go check it out. You will see what I mean.

Happy Trails!

We are beer lovers! My son-in-law is a Brewer in fact, at a up-and-coming brewery here in Massachusetts! Sounds yummy!
