Review of the Bean Pot Restaurant in Crossville, Tennessee

Dana Barnett
The Bean Pot Restaurant is located at 590 Peavine Road in Crossville, Tennessee right off of I-40 in the Cumberland Plateau. The restaurant is a charming southern establishment that is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The locals say that the restaurant has not closed its doors once since 1973.

The Bean Pot Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Breakfast is served all day and all night. The choices for breakfast are typical---eggs, pancakes, French Toast, omelets, and breakfast meats (bacon, sausage, and ham). Of course, The Bean Pot serves the southern staple of biscuits and gravy, plus, donuts, waffles, cereal, and much more. There is something for everyone on the breakfast menu.

For lunch and dinner, patrons can enjoy burgers, sandwiches, and salads. The Bean Pot features lunch specials every day of the week. For vegetarians, The Bean Pot actually offers a veggie plate. Yes, the veggie plate does consist of vegetables that are breaded and deep fried, but it wouldn't be southern style cooking if it wasn't fried. The menu also offers restaurant guests the choice of seafood, chicken, and meat entrees with delicious sides including cole slaw, potatoes, and salad. For dessert, The Bean Pot has several different cobblers and pies, and there is also an ice cream parlor. Make sure you sample the homemade fudge that is for sale. It's not to be missed.

After your breakfast, lunch, or dinner, patrons can browse around the gift shop located inside of The Bean Pot. The store offers souvenir items, sweet treats, and even fireworks. In the back of the restaurant there is also a kind of mini museum that features historical memorabilia from the Crossville area.

The ambiance of The Bean Pot is quite simple, but the restaurant is large and can accommodate many diners. The service is good at the restaurant-I have never been kept waiting very long and there is always a waitress available to refill your coffee cup. The food is not too bad either. It's simple, but tasty, and every time I have been to the restaurant, the food has always been good.

If you are ever visiting Crossville, Tennessee or just passing through the area on I-40 in Middle Tennessee, make sure to stop by The Bean Pot for some local charm. The Bean Pot Restaurant s a pleasant place to enjoy breakfast, lunch, or dinner with some interesting perks you don't find every day.

Every year for about 7 years, me & my family would take a road trip to either Pennsylvania from Tennessee or from Tennessee to Pennsylvania. And every year we stopped at the Bean Pot. It had become our family tradition. We absolutely loved it there. The food is fantastic, as well as the service. The antiques and gifts were delightful. I was only 6 or so when we started going there. Unfortunately, I haven't been in a couple of years. It was the most memorable part of my childhood. We'd spend hours there eating and shopping and just looking around. I don't understand how someone could think it was "the scariest sideshow attraction" or how they would possibly get "their throats cut". It really is a memorable place. If you haven't been, I highly recommend checking it out. You won't regret it. Not only is it one of the most interesting places to go, it's also one of the most original, southern style restaurants you could find.

Thanks, Genie. Unfortunately, my husband shares the sentiments of Jdiddles. He laughed so hard when I read what they had to say! I like the Bean Pot, though.

Back before I went gluten free - I used to eat at the Bean Pot - I always found it to be a good place stop. Great review.

My fiance and I stopped at this "restaurant" during a road trip to nashville. This place was the scariest road side atraction we had ever seen. There was no Southern Charm, and we're both southern. It was like a Rob Zombie film met Deliverance. From the workers who reminded us of the family from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, to the freaky "antiques" which included Indian Maniquins propped up in the oddest places. As for the food, we didn't stay long enough to get our throats cut or to try the grilled cheese. However, if you are into freaky road side attractions this is one you shouldn't miss.
