Review of the "On the Beat" Radio Show on WFNZ

Brett Jensen's New Show on WFNZ

Randy Inman
Thanks for checking out my review of "On The Beat" or "OTB" on WFNZ out of Charlotte North Carolina. In January of 2011 WFNZ "The Fan" premiered their new lineup with "OTB" with Brett Jensen being one of the new shows. You can listen to "OTB" on Wfnz.com or on your radio if you happen to live in the Charlotte area.

Brett Jensen has covered sports as several years in the Carolinas and Georgia as a newspaper writer and or blogger. For the previous year or so Jensen had been a frequent guest host on various WFNZ shows and now hosts "On The Beat" from 10 am until noon. "OTB" follows the "Mac Attack" and is followed by another new show "Bustin Loose" with Frank Garcia and Muhsin Muhammad.

I have long been a fan of Brett Jensen and had hoped he would get his own show. Jensen isn't an obvious homer fan of any team other than the Yankees and he gives a slightly pessimistic view of sports teams. That being said Jensen is very fan friendly via emails and during calls to the show. He gets the fact that fans of his show are what keeps him having a show and Jensen is a gracious Charlotte sports radio host without being an over the top butt kisser.

Being a freelance sports writer I listen to sports radio from around 6 in the morning to 7 in the evening while working at my day job. For you Charlotte sports fans I will put a couple of other WFNZ articles in the sources below.

My favorite thing about "OTB" is the use of different guest hosts to help Brett Jensen each day. Often you will have repeat guest hosts such as John Kilgo and Stan Olsen, but also guest hosts who may appear once every few months. With Brett Jensen's journalist ties he often has other sports writers on as guests or co hosts.

Jensen brings a fresh prospective to WFNZ with his "On The Beat" show and my only real complaint is that the show is only two hours long. But it beats the Hell out of Colin Cowherd who Jensen replaced in that time slot. One of the best things for me about WFNZ is listening to all the callers. Jensen has gathered some of the same callers that make the other shows so good. My favorite caller Chevin plus Red Fox, Mike from Gastonia and his voice twin Bob are all frequent callers. If you WFNZ listeners hear
a hick voice identified as Randy from Hickory then that is me. I hope everyone will give Jensen's new show a chance, you won't be disappointed.
