Review of BeneFit Boi-ing Concealer

Good for Half of My Face, Horrible for the Other Half

Layla A.
I strongly believe in not caking on foundation and/or concealer to hide zits, because I feel it will only make them worse in the end. For the most part, with the help of some acne products, I manage to keep my face relatively zit-free. However, when there is a huge blemish, I cannot fight the urge to cover it a least a little. Hearing such great things about this concealer and being a fan of BeneFit products, I decided I would try Boi-ing.

COLOR

I have Boi-ing Concealer in Shade 01, which I think is actually a tad bit too dark for me. Great for summer, but in the winter, it simply does not work. It is a beige shade with yellow-neutral undertones. Overall, great color match for me for foundation. However, as concealer experts will tell you, concealer should be one-two shades lighter than your skin/foundation. Unfortunately, this is BeneFit's lightest color with only two others following it. Again, BeneFit really needs to expand their shade range.

FORMULA

Boi-ing is a cream concealer, definitely not liquid. It is a very creamy concealer, and you don't need a lot, but I really have trouble blending it sometimes, despite the creamy texture. When patting it on, it covers pretty well. Well, it covers great, actually. But, the disadvantage of having combination skin and not liking cloying makeup products makes it a huge challenge for me to find a product that works. This is a fantastic concealer for the normal-to-oily parts on my face, but on the dry parts, it makes your skin look even worse! I look like my skin is peeling when I put this on dry areas in my face. It also doesn't blend very well under the eye, and will not cover any redness you may have. It is very good for the random pimple for normal-oily skin, but really not good for red or dry. That being said, the formula didn't fit my needs, but it could fit someone else's.

FUNCTIONALITY

I would consider this concealer good for normal-oily skin, but dry skin, beware. It is also not good at covering dark eye circles all around, so, I do not see it as very functional, user-friendly, or multi-tasking. Concealer is not really needed on-the-go, so any points it would have gotten from that are out the window. To me, a good concealer should be extremely functional and meet all of your concealing needs. No cigar with this one.

PACKAGING

Boi-ing is in a black pot. It has a clear window with the word 'Boi-ing' on it and has a good screw-on cap. The packaging is nothing spectacular, but does have the wide rim and opening that I am crazy about since it makes using the product so much easier.

PRICE

This concealer retails at benefitcosmetics.com for $18. For $18, you get 3 grams/0.1 oz of product. Honestly, I would much rather get a MAC or even a drug store concealer in place of this. When I first tried it, I really liked it. It was summer so I had slightly darker skin, my skin was not as dry like in the winter, and it was really, my first concealer. A truly good concealer should work for you all year round, not when convenient.

FINAL OPINIONS

Overall, this is a don't-buy for me. I really do not like this enough to use it, even on the more oily sections of my face. I think you can get a much better concealer for the same or even less amount of money, and would not waste another dime on this. I guess, when it comes down to it, I don't like BeneFit as much as I thought. They'll have to do something really incredible to earn my business again.
