I had to do some grocery shopping yesterday morning (my wife was in the mood for beef stew for dinner) and, after finishing up on a project outside, headed over to our local Piggly Wiggly store.
While I was there, I noticed the store was handing out free samples of one of the pizzas they sold; Bernatello Traditions with Cracker Thin Crust. I had no intention of buying frozen pizza but I was a bit hungry so I decided to give a piece of it a try.
Let's just say this isn't a pizza I would even consider buying.
The woman that was handing out the pizza was very nice and was making a very sincere effort to convince people to buy this pizza. And, not wanting to be rude, when I turned her down, I told her it was just because I wasn't a big thin crust fan. This, of course, wasn't a lie. I really don't like thin crust and this pizza had one of the thinnest crusts I've eaten.
However, truth be told, that wasn't the only reason I didn't like this pizza. The main one ended up being the taste; especially when it came to the sauce. When I tried this pizza, I figured it would be like every other one I've tried. I was wrong. Instead, it was much worse than most brands because the sauce had no flavor to it. As I was telling my wife, it was a bit like eating a slice of pizza made with ketchup. And, it took quite a bit to get that awful taste out of my mouth afterwards.
To be fair, there were some things to like about this pizza too. One of the big ones was the quantity of toppings on the pizza. I only had one piece but, from what I could tell both from that piece and looking at one in the freezer section, the pizza had quite a few toppings on it considering it was priced under $4.
Also, even though I'm not a big thin crust fan, I do have to admit this crust (while very thin) was better than I was expecting it to be because it did came out crisp. I didn't feel like it was going to end up folding over on me like many other pizzas we've eaten.
Overall though, the taste left me feeling pretty disappointed when it came to this product and see no reason why I would buy it.
