A couple days ago, I stopped off at the store to pick up a couple of things. While I was there, I walked past their freezer section and saw a display of Bertolli Premium Meal Soups.
I have had Bertolli dinners in the past and have never been impressed enough with them to want to spend the money on them. But, with it getting colder, I have been craving soup more and, since the meal soup was on sale, I decided to pick up a package of their roasted chicken and rotini pasta soup. And, last night, my wife and I made it for dinner.
Since she was busy tending to the kids (it was a school night so our oldest needed a bath), I decided to make the soup and found it was actually very easy to make. All I had to do was add the frozen contents to a pot, add a cup of water and cook it; stirring on occasion. It was done in about 10 minutes.
One other thing I discovered about this soup is it made quite a bit. It was advertised as a meal for two and I figured that would mean just two servings. But, there was enough for us to each have seconds with it.
However, when it was all said and done, I wasn't very impressed with this product.
First of all, when it came to taste, there was nothing special about this soup. Not only did it look like something I could have gotten from a can, it tasted like it too. In fact, I'm pretty sure I could have taken a can of store-brand "chunky" soup and would not have been able to tell the difference between that and this product; which, at $4.75, cost me roughly 2-3 times more.
Also, since this was advertised as a "meal soup" I figured it would be more filling than the typical canned soup. That was not the case. Even with having seconds, I honestly was still hungry. And, given the price, I don't think this is something that is worth the money just as an appetizer or side dish.
As I said before, I was very disappointed with this purchase. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't something that justified the higher price and did not live up to expectations. If you are in the mood for soup, I recommend just buying a couple cans of it instead.
