The hotel is decorated in the Art Deco style and would also fit in great in Miami. It is full of brightly colored blue and green accent pieces to give it a beachy feel. The hotel is only a three block walk from the famous Waikiki Beach, known for great surfing. The Waikiki Beachwalk is also three blocks away and you can find lots of shopping there. Restaurants and nightlife are also nearby. Downtown is only a 4 mile drive but you may not even want to go there unless you are on a business trip.
While being a beach hotel, the Coconut Waikiki is still very high-tech. There are 40 inch flat screen HDTVs in all of the rooms and free WiFi throughout the hotel. Each room has its own lanai so you can sit outside and enjoy the view. Rooms on one side of the hotel have views of the city, while rooms on the other side view the mountains.
The pool is rather small and surrounded by buildings, but it is a nice place to relax with a book since it rarely seems to be busy with the ocean nearby. Keep in mind that the waves at the beach can get large and if you have children with you, you may prefer swimming in the pool.
The rooms in the hotel are quite small but they are beautiful decorated and kept very clean. If you are in Hawaii, you should be out enjoying the outdoors rather than sitting in your hotel anyway.
The Coconut Waikiki offers free continental breakfast in the morning. They offered everything you could want, including make-it-yourself waffles and fresh pineapple. Coffee and tea was always available in the lobby as well.
My only complaint was that the street noise at night was rather loud but that problem was fixed with my earplugs and I had no trouble sleeping.
The staff were helpful throughout our trip and gave us great directions and suggestions for places to eat dinner.
