My wife and I went about three weeks without doing any real grocery shopping for our house so, a few days ago, I decided to try to catch up on it while my wife was getting her nails done at a local salon.
Since both of us work and don't have a whole lot of time in the evenings to spend making dinner, I decided to look for items that could be made without a great deal of work. And, when I saw Betty Crocker Complete Meals in one of the aisles, I decided to pick up the Chicken with Cheesy Rice & Broccoli variety.
The thing that attracted me most to this item was the fact all the ingredients (other than milk) were already in the box. Unlike some other products in the same aisle, I didn't need to worry about picking up chicken or some other item in addition to the kit itself. And, this was something I did appreciate, both because it saved me money and because my youngest daughter was with me and, with that distraction, I'm certain I would have forgotten to pick up the additional item or items.
We finally got around to making this dinner last night and, while it wasn't terrible, I do have to say my opinion of it is mixed.
First of all, the dinner was easy to make. My wife is the one who ended up baking it and didn't seem to have any issues following the instructions. Plus, the Chicken with Cheesy Rice & Broccoli was done in a reasonable amount of time (less than an hour).
As far as taste goes, I really don't have any complaints. It probably could have used a bit more chicken. But, overall, I did enjoy eating it. I even had seconds.
My only problem with this is the "complete meal" description is very misleading because I really wouldn't classify it as a meal. It wasn't very filling, even after a couple servings. And, if anything, I think it would have been better as a side dish.
In other words, if you are looking for something to bring as a dish to pass at a dinner party, this might be worth considering. But, if you are expecting to feed your family with this and nothing else, you'll be disappointed. As a result of that, I don't recommend purchasing this product with the intention of eating the chicken and rice by themselves.
