I have been using my husband's old Mach 3 razor by Gillette for several years now and thought I might upgrade to a woman's razor with blades that were not as expensive as the Mach 3 blades. I was looking for something that was not the store brand, not disposable and was not as pricey as the big name brands on the market. When I found the Bic Soleil on the shelf at the local supermarket, I was excited. It was a snazzy orange color, the handle looked comfortable to hold, it had 3 blades and the package promoted a wide moisturizing strip, which is something I love about the Mach 3. The price was right, as was the price for the refill blades. It was quickly tossed into my cart without a second thought.
When I popped it out of it's package and prepared for the first shave I had high expectations. The handle had a nice soft grip and its curvy design fit my hand perfectly. I thought that I had found my new razor. I was in love. I lathered up my shaving cream and proceeded to shave. The moment the blades scraped across my skin my mind changed instantly. I was no long in love. Instead of feeling a nice smooth shave, it felt like the hair on my legs had been torn out by the roots. My leg was actually stinging in the place I had shaved and I noticed spots of blood. That is definitely not what I was looking for.
I assumed that maybe I was pressing to hard or at a bad angle or that since it was a new blade it had not been properly broken in. I was disappointed by the moisturizing strip as well. Using my Mach 3, I could tell when the moisture strip was working, but with the Bic Soleil you wouldn't know it was there. I felt nothing moisturizing about it, even when running my wet fingers over it.
I continued to use the razor during the next few weeks and even switched to the 2nd blade that came in the package, thinking that maybe I just had a faulty blade. To my displeasure, I found that with each and every shave nothing improved. I got an ok shave for an inexpensive razor, but paid the price with legs feeling and looking as though they were forced through a chipper/shredder. Aside from the shape of the handle, which I still love, there's nothing sunny about the Soleil.
Women want soft, sexy, smooth, beautiful legs after shaving, not ones that burn and bleed and have to be covered in Band-Aids. I think I'm going to stick with my trusty Mach 3, despite the cost of replacement blades. That snazzy looking orange Bic Soleil sits unused in my shower just begging me to pick it up and try it again, but honestly, I don't think I'll have a change of heart on this one.

I'm a 23 year old woman living in Toronto who would like to shed light on an advertisement currently running in the TTC subways for Bic razors.
This poster depicts a 1950s pinup style cartoon of long-legged woman bending over in the grocery store, her mini skirt riding higher in the back, with a confident smile thrown in the direction of the viewer. "For legs that beckon." is the slogan written across the bottom.
Despite the fact that the media is flooded with sex, there is something about this particular ad that affects me. As a target market consumer, I found myself surprisingly shocked and offended and assumed I was alone in this feeling.
For the first time ever, I am standing up against the way woman are portrayed in marketing, and I need your help. Please check out my petition, and sign if you feel the same way.
Please find the links of the image taken from my cellphone of the poster in question, and to my petition below.

This is strange to see all these bad comments. I have used this razor for over a year and a half and have not been disappointed. I quickly did learn how to properly use it as I did get a few tiny cuts on my new blade. Its cute, gives me a very smooth shave, and works great for me! Very happy with this product :)
Maybe Bic should spend more money on the produce instead the packaging'....It took a hammer and a knife to retrive the product from the container!!
This is absolutely the worst razor I have ever used. I have a 4 inch cut on my left leg that is going to leave an ugly scar. DO NOT BUY THIS RAZOR!
This razor is terrible! I accidently picked it up in the shower 20 minutes ago and I have another bandaid on my leg! I bought it new last week, got a terrible cut right away and bad razor burn but I neglected to remove it from the shower. Total waste of money. As a matter of fact, I won't buy another Bic product because of this (like they care).
Kari - I'm glad someone has had decent luck with this razor. And I don't think it's that people have problems shaving...I've been shaving for several years and consider myself an old hand at it and I don't have as many problems with my current razor as I did with the Soleil. But, to each their own.
It looks to me like a bunch of people here don't know how to properly shave.....
I've been using the Soleil for over a year now, and I've not had any problems......no slashing my legs, no bleeding. I definitely notice my moisture strip working as well.....immediately after shaving my skin feels silky and soft.
I DO recommend this razor!
This razor is awful I tried two to see if one was just bad but man razor burn that hurts is what I got from this razor.
Definitely the worst razor ever. I usually us Veet or my husbands razor bc I have really sensitive skin on my thighs/bikini area. I just bought these looking for a cheaper alternative. I am now covered with awful razor bumps and nicks, Lovely...just what I wanted the night my husband is coming home from a business trip! Now I will have to go pick up some bikini zone on the way to the airport!
