Review: Big Sky Evolution 2P Tent

A tent is an important investment that will hopefully last you for years to come. With so many similar products on the market, it can be difficult to choose one that will best fit your specific needs. Backpackers are usually interested in a very light tent because they will be hauling it around in their packs all day. If you are looking for a two-person backpacking tent, I recommend the Big Sky Evolution 2P that can be purchased for about $350. There is also another option with carbon fiber poles that sells for about $455 that is even lighter. The tent comes with a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects.

This tent has plenty of room for two people. Each person has their own door and own 8 square food vestibule area. The tent weighs 3.25 pounds so it is light enough for one person to carry, but can also be divided so each person can take half. This makes its weight barely noticeable in your pack. I am impressed by this tent's low levels of condensation, which I have found to be a problem in other backpacking tents. The Evolution has double walls and great ventilation to help cut down on the condensation.

While this tent is designed for three-season use, I have been caught in it in a snowstorm and was presently surprised to find that we woke up dry in the morning. The tent also does a good job of blocking most wind, even during thunderstorms. You will probably need to keep the doors zipped if it is raining hard, because the fly is not perfect at protecting the inside from the water, but that is probably true of any tent out there.

A neat feature that I enjoy is the organizational pockets on the inside. I love being able to get my stuff out of the way while I sleep and be able to find my flashlight quickly if I need it. the ceiling is high which gives you the option to sew your own shelf up there for more organization. Most of the tent is mesh so you can still feel like you are outside while protecting yourself from bugs.

The tent is available in grey and yellow.
