Review of Bigelow Eggnogg Tea

Bigelow calls their eggnog tea, Eggnogg'n "an exceptional winter tea". If you are familiar with the taste of holiday eggnog then you will recognize it in Eggnogg'n tea. However, since there is no cream or sugar or egg, it's only the flavor of eggnog you will taste. What you do to the tea afterward will determine the true taste.

Bigelow's Eggnogg'n can make an excellent eggnog toddy. Brew the tea strong in a mug, use 2 tea bags for a big mug. Add sugar to taste and about 1 tbsp half and half or cream. A small splash of brandy or scotch will make this an "official" toddy.

If you love holiday eggnog but shrink in horror at is obscene level of fat and sugar, try an original eggnog tea based eggnog. Take 2 cups of hot water, add 3-4 tea bags. After steeping, place in small pot and add a cup of milk, low fat or regular. If you use regular milk the eggnog will taste better and still have much less fat than regular eggnog. Heat and add about 4-5 tablespoons of sugar. You can use honey if you prefer a honey tasting eggnog. Refrigerate until cold, then whip up in a blender until frothy and serve. It can still be drunk without frothing but it won't be as thick.

Another drink you can make from eggnog tea is eggnog cappuccino. This does not need to be made in a cappuccino maker, but you will need a frother. You can use a steam frother or one of the many frothing gadgets that are simply pumped in the milk. There are 2 ways to make the eggnog coffee. Either make the tea and use that water to brew the espresso or strong coffee or brew espresso or coffee and add a very small amount of very concentrated eggnog tea. To make the concentrate just add about 2 tea bags to 4 ounces of very hot water. Use an ounce for each cup of coffee. After the coffee with eggnog flavor is made, froth milk, add an ounce or more to the coffee and add sugar to taste. I prefer it with sugar for more of an authentic eggnog taste but judge for yourself. Sprinkle a little cinnamon on top of your eggnog cappuccino and serve.

It's surprising how much you can do with Bigelow Eggnogg'n tea. I had never seen this tea before I discovered it recently at a Christmas Tree Shops store. If you come across Eggnogg'n try these recipes for an excellent holiday or any day beverage.
