Review of BookSaleFinder.com: For the Compulsive Book Buyer in Us All

Timothy Sexton
Can you pass by a sign that reads "book sale" without stopping? Or are you, like me, an inveterate book sale browser? No matter where I go, if there are books being sold I inevitably wind up there. There are a lot of clothes at Ross for Less, but I don't spend much time looking for new shirts or pants; instead I head straight back for the book section. It's not big, but I can usually find a great deal back there.

Here in Pensacola, the public library has a sale twice a year. One of them is so big that it used to be held downtown at the same site where bands like KISS and Foghat gave concerts. The past few years it was held at the fairgrounds. When I say it was a BIG sale, I mean it. I love the big public library book sale; this year I walked away with five cardboard boxes overflowing with volumes for about $65.00. That's only because I couldn't get there this year for the special end of sale mad rush where you get about ten minutes to fill up as many boxes as you want for a preset price of less than five bucks a box.

If you are the type of person who understands the particular thrill of coming across a book sale like that, then do I have a web site for you. The name of the web site is as simple as it the very idea. Booksalefinder.com. Yes, just follow that link and you will be presented with plethora of book sales all over the country. The web site presents you with a map and when you click on a state you are then taken to a list of cities featuring ongoing or upcoming book sales. And when the book sale is really big it lets you know.

The information provided is complete. I mean Booksalefinder.com gives you not just the dates of the books sale, but the address and phone number and, if applicable, a web site containing more information. It also gives you information on what kind of sale you can expect. For instance, some book sales require a payment for you take part in on the first day before opening to the general public afterward. Or, you may get all excited about a big book sale in a neighboring city, only to find out that it is limited to only hardcover or only paperbacks; or only science fiction or only romance novels. Booksalefinder.com is the place to go to find out exactly what kind of sale you may be heading off to.

Booksalefinder.com is also the place to advertise your own book sale. In fact, you can advertise your book sale for up to nine months in advance. The listings are free for non-profit groups, with various charges if it is going to be a for-profit affair.

Of course, the real attraction of Booksalefinder.com is for the book buyer. This is an especially nice site if you are planning a trip somewhere and want to find out if any book sales could be placed on your agenda. I know for a fact that any time I head out of town for any reason one of the first things I plan on doing is checking with Booksalefinder.com to find out if I can add to my growing library. As a freelance writer, of course, I write my used book purchase off on my taxes. I'm not tax man, thank God, but now I feel I really must look into whether I can write off visits to out of town book sales as a business trip expense.

Okay, not really, Mr. IRS agent reading this.

Heh, heh, heh…………

There are a couple other sites out there now that are similar to this. Each have their own perks. Try out www.booksalelist.com and www.booksalemanager.com (the later has a zip code search function!)

Hope this helps other people find book sales!
