Review of Borat Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan

Kyle
Borat is an outrageously funny movie. This movie has created a lot of controversy and as soon as you watch it you can see why. The main character, Borat, is a reporter from Kazakhstan who travels to America to learn how to make improvements in his country. While in America he has meetings with some different people to learn what he can do to improve his country. Early in his adventures he falls in love with a lifeguard he sees on TV in the show Baywatch.

The next morning he is informed that his wife has died, this news inspires him to set off to find Pamela Anderson, the lifeguard he had seen the night before on Baywatch. Borat continues his journey across America towards California and Pamela. The whole time he must keep his producer convinced he is going on this trip to meet more people who can help their country. There are several more meetings with coaches and teachers to help Borat learn how to behave in America, all of which are hilarious to watch. The element of the movie that makes it even more humorous is how almost all of the people in the movie except Borat believe this is a documentary and that Borat is actually from Kazakhstan.

This movie has offended many people including the Kazakhstan government. To try to keep their country from being viewed negatively they released an ad trying to increase tourism to Kazakhstan. The government has even filed a lawsuit against the movie, as have many others who were in the film. The city where the opening scenes were filmed, supposedly in Kazakhstan, is in Romania and they are also considering suing the films producers.

Sacha Baron Cohen, the actor who plays Borat, refuses to do any interviews out of character. He has appeared on several late night and talk shows to spread awareness of the movie but, he always is there as Borat instead of himself.

Overall this is one of the year's best movies; it is very humorous and has won many awards. Borat won the Los Angeles film critics association best actor award for actor Sacha Baron Cohen and the American film institute official selection top 10 films of the year award. And entertainment weekly says this film is "them most politically influential, culturally important, shockingly tasteless, and gaspingly hilarious movie of the year." I give this movie a 5 out of 5 stars.
