Review of Broken Social Scene's Album You Forgot it in People

Confection
This is definitely a fan favorite of the Broken Social Scene albums. Its much more diverse and more vocally pulled unlike Feel Good Lost, which was ambience with a post-rock feel. There is a lot going on in each song, I think this is due to the fact that 10 members make up the group. So many instruments take an effect into the music such as the standard guitars, drums, basses, vocals and some rare instruments such as banjos, saxophones and flutes. It's really amazing how these very different instruments blend together so smoothly.

I think this album has something for everyone. Post-rock and contemporary show up in the majority of the songs mixing the genres into something almost everyone could enjoy. There's even some chilled down tempo such as the song "Looks Just Like The Sun". At first, You Forgot It in People may appear to be a sprawling and conflicting mess of songs. After a few listens it turns out to be manageable and believable. The album seems to start off with a loud upbeat sound and drops down to a chilled temp which makes it unique in its own way. "Anthems for a 17 Year Old Girl" is one the prettiest songs I have ever heard and it's definitely worth a listen. Another track is the second one along which is KC Accidental. It starts with a heavy rift and slows down towards the middle with beautiful vocals, only to catch up to the rift again towards the end. I'd say its worth checking this album out for this song alone. As a matter of fact I might as well give the low down on each song so you can know what to expect, to give this review a little extra spice and see if this is up to your expectations.

Capture The Flag
A soft short intro that provokes the sound for the rest of the album, its quite a solid start.

KC Accidental
As I said, great ongoing melody that would be stuck in your head for hours.

Stars And Sons
Probably one of the more "poppy" sounds on the album. Its a definite turn for Broken Social Scene to create a song like this, but in the end it turns out quite catchy.

Almost Crimes
This almost sounds like it could be mixed into the last song, the beat is still energetic and maintains this throughout. This new style may shock veteran fans in a positive or negative way.

Looks Just Like The Sun
One of the nice and soft chillout beats that become more prominent at the end of the album.

Pacific Theme
A wonderful mix of down tempo and guitar creates the feeling of laying on a sunset beach, hence the title.

Anthems For A Seventeen Year-Old Girl
One of the best tracks on the album. The soft lyrics and meaning really give the overall feel of the song. Great for relaxation.

Cause = Time
Another pop tune that you would probabaly never tire of hearing due to the wonderful instrumentation.

Late Nineties Bedroom Rock For The Missionaries
Here's some classic Broken Social Scene for those who at first felt the band took a totally different turn. Everything about this track will make you think you're listening to the right band.

Shampoo Suicide
Another classic sound of the band, very reminiscent of Feel Good Lost.

Lover's Spit
Despite the strange title the chilled out sound gives a little mix of BSS and maybe even a dash of Coldplay can be heard.

I'm Still Your Fag
This title seriously made me laugh at first whether they are being comical or not. The soothing sound of it does tell you the album is coming to a close.

Pitter Patter Goes My Heart
A great closure in my opinion. This track is basically a remixed dub of Anthems For A Seventeen Year-Old Girl.

In all honesty, this is one the greatest indie albums I have heard. It's a nice clash of different sounds that actually work together to create a great piece of musical art and I totally think you should give it a go even if the genre isn't your thing.

Lover's Spit is the first Broken Social Scene song I heard, so it holds a special place in my heart. Great review. =)
