I have recently tried Burt's Bees Super Shiny Grapefruit & Sugar Beet Shampoo after leaving my house without my normal shampoo when going on a vacation. This is my opinion of the shampoo as well as a list of the Pros and Cons.
So I figured that when I bought this Burt's Bees shampoo that it was good for the environment, and I was going to try something more "green" on my hair. Going green is not a giant priority of mine, but it's a small comfort to feel like you're not contributing more to the growing pollution of the planet.
While trying this particular Burt's Bees shampoo I noticed it does have a really nice scent and goes on pretty smoothly, although I did have to use more shampoo than I normally do because it soaked in pretty quickly. My hair is pretty thin, and I do get it highlighted about once or twice a year. So although it may be slightly heat styled, my hair is not overly dry or damaged, but is certainly in need of nice scents and volume!
Pros:
• This all natural product makes the user feel like an earth conscious consumer wary of their carbon foot print.
• This Shampoo has a great smell.
• It definitely gets rid of the build up from changes in heavy chemical water if traveling.
• Does not leave hair greasy
• As Burt's Bees products go, it's pretty affordable, and under 10 dollars.
• This all natural product definitely leaves hair shiny.
Cons:
• Burt's Bees Super Shiny Grapefruit & Sugar Beet Shampoo dries out my thin hair, and the conditioner doesn't moisturize my hair enough to compensate.
• Burt's Bees Super Shiny Grapefruit & Sugar Beet Conditioner is not an effective tool in preventing further damage seeing that it doesn't coat the hair very well.
• Burt's Bees Super Shiny Grapefruit & Sugar Beet Conditioner isn't creamy enough to lather throughout my hair, so I had to use extra amounts.
• Burt's Bees Super Shiny Grapefruit & Sugar Beet Conditioner and shampoo did nothing to prevent tangles or breakage.
• After a few times of using this shampoo, I needed other styling products to put the moisture back in my hair, and ended up just using my other shampoo and conditioner.
I'm usually very satisfied with the majority of the Burt's Bees products, but this shampoo just wasn't for me. So overall I'd say this shampoo would benefit someone that had very oily hair, and no problem with tangles. It did help me out when I had to shower in an area that had high chemical deposits in their water by keeping the oils and debris out of my hair, but I only used it for a short period of time. This shampoo does have its uses, but definitely isn't for every day use if you have hair like mine. It makes you feel good about your carbon footprint, and smells great, but it doesn't do the best on fine, thin, dry, or damaged hair. I'd recommend this product to anyone with thick or oily hair that wants a nice shine with no chemical film or residue.

Post a CommentGreat, honest review. Being a Green Girl, I love all Burt's Bees products but they aren't for everyone. The reason the shampoo did not provide much lather or many suds is because it does not contain sodium laurel sulfates, which create lots of suds but can be very irritating to skin. Thanks for sharing!
Burt has some good stuff :)
I love, love, love that stuff. Thanks for writing!
Thank you! I wanted to focus on the positives of this shampoo even though I wouldn't use it all the time, its great for stripping chemicals out of hair when you've got hard water!
Interesting review.
