Review of Caesar's Cheese Lasagna in Marinara Sauce

Genie Walker
There are several Kroger's in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, each has a different collection of gluten free items. I often go to more than one Kroger's to do my shopping, just to have variety. I looked in my freezer the other day and I had three packages of Caesar's Gluten Free & Wheat Free Cheese Lasagna. I only remember buying it once. I must have been in the mood for lasagna. Probably because it has been nearly a decade since I have eaten lasagna and it used to be one of my favorite meals. One year a friend baked me a pan of lasagna instead of a birthday cake; it was awesome.

Well, I ate all three sets of Caesar's Gluten Free & Wheat Free Cheese Lasagna before writing this review. It wasn't because I couldn't make up my mind. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't comparing this product with the lasagna from my memories. It just isn't fair to compare most gluten free food with its gluten version, especially when it made from scratch at home.

The first time I ate this meal, I thought hmmmm; not bad, but not the great taste I remembered. The sauce was good, the noodles were thick but tasted okay, but the cheese was a little gritty to me. I know this is cheese lasagna, but I am missing the meat. The second time I had the Caesar's Gluten Free & Wheat Free Cheese Lasagna it wasn't prepared as directed on the package for a microwave oven. Instead of having a one inch slit there were four; one in each corner. The corners tasted wonderful, but the middle was rubbery. I learned that you have to do what the directions say to do.

The third time I had this meal, I still didn't find it exceptional, but it was a good meal that was fulfilling. It was good for a frozen meal; I just wish it had meat in it then maybe it would be more like the lasagna from my memories. I will eventually buy this product again. It's going to take a while to want lasagna after having it three times within a two week span.

Bottom line: This is a good frozen lasagna that just happens to be gluten free.

Revisited the article because I haven't been able to locate the Caesar brand and thought I had written down the wrong name. Sounds delicious, too bad I won't be able to try one.

Good review. We don't have a Krogers here, and I haven't heard of Caesar's frozen foods. I have tried Stouffers vegetable lasagna, which is good and filling. I don't remember seeing any that are gluten or wheat free.
