Review of Campbell's Healthy Select Mexican-Style Chicken Tortilla Soup

Daisy May
Like most people I buy a couple cans of soup and throw them in the cupboard for those cold, wintry lazy days. As I get older though, I want my canned soup to be healthy as well as tasty and filling. That is why I tried Campbell's Select Harvest Mexican-Style Chicken Tortilla.

The Campbell's Select Harvest is part of the Healthy Request series. The Mexican-Style Chicken Tortilla is made with whole grain rice, low in fat and cholesterol, and has no MSG added (except for the small amount occurring naturally in yeast extract). The ingredient list says above it- Real Ingrediants For Real Taste. The ingredient list begins chicken stock, tomato puree, roasted white meat chicken, brown rice, corn, red peppers, cooked black beans.... That was enough to help me decide to buy it, but was it good?

I opened the pop top lid and cooked the Campbell's Select Harvest Mexican-Style Chicken Tortilla on the stovetop. The soup looked good but didn't really have a strong smell while cooking. When I tasted the soup I was disappointed. The taste was bland and I could barely taste anything other than the spiced soup stock. I even waited a few minutes and tried it again after it cooled somewhat. I just could not eat the Campbell's Select Harvest Mexican-Style Chicken Tortilla.

Rather than let the soup go to waste, I sent the remainder to my father-in-law for lunch. He could not stand to eat it either and had to be thrown out. He said it just didn't have a good taste. Although satisfaction is guaranteed, I probably will cut my losses and just not buy it anymore.

The can does have good things to say like it meets the American Heart Association food criteria, and cooked with care in the USA, but these things doesn't mean anything when you can't stand to eat it. Still, many people might like it or can tolerate it.

I bought my one pound, two point six once can of Campbell's Select Harvest Mexican-Style Chicken Tortilla ready to serve soup at Walmart for less than two dollars. However, Campbell's Healthy Select soups can be found at most grocers and retail stores. Each can contains two servings.

I would not recommend Campbell's Select Harvest Mexican-Style Chicken Tortilla ready to eat soup to anyone. Not only does it taste bad, it has fourteen percent of the daily allowance for sodium.
