Review of Canon PowerShot A430

Logan McCall
Of all of the point and click digital cameras that I have owned or played around with, and that has been a few, the Canon PowerShot A430 remains my favorite digital camera due to its reliably outstanding picture quality and its intuitive ease of use. You will find Canon PowerShots of out there with more features and boasting a higher resolution, but the Canon PowerShot A430 delivers the few features that I need without having to look for them and has resolution that is above and beyond the needs of an average home photographer like myself already. The features that make the Canon PowerShot A430 my constant companion are its ease of use, features for close up picture and the over all physical size and shape of the camera.

Canon PowerShot A430 Ease of Use

The Canon PowerShot A430 is a particularly intuitive camera with a wide variety of auto-sensing and auto-focusing that take much of the preparation and thinking out of the equation, which is perfect for the average digital camera user who simply wants to point, click and walk away with a great picture. However, the most useful manual features are remarkably easy to access, such as panoramic shots, timed pictures and adjusting the camera's automatic flash settings. Still, camera users who are more technically inclined should find that the Canon Powershot A430 still allows for plenty of access to get in and tweak the camera's settings to their hearts content.

Canon PowerShot A430 Close Up Features

I tend to do quite a bit of close up photography of botanic samples and still lives, and the Canon PowerShot A430 has met all of my needs that could be reasonably expected out of a point and click style camera. With the quick push of a couple buttons, I can let the camera known that I'm doing a close up shot and that I'm providing my own lighting. The results are almost always what I'm looking for, although I've learned to overcompensate a little with lighting, as the LCD screen seems to make images appear brighter in display mode than the camera actual captures when I'm ready to take the shot.

Canon PowerShot A430 Size and Shape

The size and shape of this particular model are perfect for the less sure handed of us. I find that I have difficulty keeping smaller cameras perfectly still, but the broader shape of the Canon PowerShot A430 allows for the solid two handed grip that I need. The larger size of this model also seem to allow for quicker access to features without the need of opening up the camera's feature menu, which I prefer to leave up to the techies.
