Design of the Canon Power-Shot A85
The mishmash of synthetic body with a tinny polish gave the A85 digital camera a solid feel. The device is equipped with a dimension of 4.0 x 2.5 x 1.2 inches, which is quite acceptable and would fit a small bag for easy carriage. The A85 has a weight of 319 gram with the inclusion of Compact-Flash card and battery. The Compact-Flash memory card is position in the front of the digital camera, which relatively increase the size of the device
The telescoping 3 x zoom lens, which comes out an extra 3/4-inch when completely stressed, is featured on the front panel of the device. The small microphone, flash, optical viewfinder window, and a light emitter lamp that serves numerous functions, including auto-focus assist, red-eye reduction, and the self-timer countdown is found on the front panel of the device. A tiny key that releases the ring around the lens barrel is found on the lower right side of the lens. A lens adapter for extended telephoto, wide angle is attachable when the ring has been removed. It would take a procurer that has large hand to be able to grip the front panel of the device because of the battery compartment.
The Compact-Flash card slot, enclosed by a hinged, synthetic door is found on the right side of the A85 digital camera. The plastic eyelet for attaching the wrist fastening is found at the top of the right side of the camera.
The connector cubicle, enclosed by a plastic, rubbery-synthetic flutter that snaps in and out of place is found on the left side of the A85 digital camera.
A Mode dial is feature on the top panel of the device, with 13 snapping positions divided into three basic groups: Creative Zone, Auto Exposure, and Image Zone. The Shutter key is positioned frontward and to the right of the Mode dial, with a Zoom toggle neighboring it. The camera's speaker is behind the Shutter button. On the other side of the Mode dial is a Power knob
The optical viewfinder and LCD monitor is located on the rear panel of the camera. The bigger 1.8 inch LCD and new 5-way direction-finding pad improve the quality of the camera. Two LED lamps that report camera position is featured by the eye-level visual viewfinder. The top right corner of the LCD screen features a Mode switch, which puts the camera into Playback or Record modes.

Most A85 camera's functions are regulated superficially, and a few of the external control keys perform various functions.
