Review: Carol's Daughter Black Vanilla Herbal Shampoo

The Pen
I recently ran out of my favorite shampoo by Carol's Daughter called Rosemary Mint, and I planned on buying another bottle, but I learned that the company had introduced a Black Vanilla Shampoo to go along with their Black Vanilla Leave-In Conditioner. I love the leave-in, so I decided to try out the shampoo.

Price of
Carol's Daughter Black Vanilla Herbal Shampoo

I purchased an 8oz bottle for $12.50 at Sephora.

Ingredients in
Carol's Daughter Black Vanilla Herbal Shampoo

The shampoo is a dark red/brown color that reminds me of iced tea or vanilla extract. It contains the extracts of Rosa Centifolia flower, calendula flower, rosemary, nettle, lavender, clover, and sage. It also has disodium cocoamphodipropionate, sodium C14-16, olefin sulfonate, cocamide DEA, polysorbate 20, and other artificial ingredients, as well as citric acid and fragrance.

Texture of
Carol's Daughter Black Vanilla Herbal Shampoo

After using it I found that it's very thick like syrup, but once I mixed it with water it thinned out and instead of creating a thick foamy lather, the lather felt kind of slimy and thin, it reminded me of egg whites.

Carol's Daughter Black Vanilla Herbal Shampoo

The fragrance in the shampoo isn't exactly the same as the one in the leave-in conditioner. It's not as potent and it doesn't smell exactly like vanilla. I don't like it as much as the leave-in's, but it smells soft and warm like a light mixture of vanilla, honey, and maple so I thought it was decent.

Results After Using
Carol's Daughter Black Vanilla Herbal Shampoo

Carol's Daughter claims that this product is for dry and damaged hair and that the shampoo is a "thick, rich recipe of gentle cleansers infused with intense moisturizers."

My hair is texture is kinky, curly, and coarse and although it's not damaged it's just naturally dry. I first used the herbal shampoo a few days ago when my hair was feeling super dehydrated and rough and it worked wonders on it.

Instead making it feel dry or stripped like a typical shampoo it added plenty of moisture to my hair like a light conditioner. It replenished my strands and made them feel softer and smoother, even my hands felt softer after using it.

But Black Vanilla also cleansed my hair and scalp really well, and I only needed to use a tiny amount for my thick hair.

In the End

I love this shampoo! It's officially replacing the Rosemary Mint as my new favorite, because of how soft and moisturized it made my hair feel. I give it 5 out of 5 stars, if you have dry or fragile hair you definitely have to try it.
