Review - Chaos Chamber

A Fast-paced Puzzle Game

Timothy Liu
Chaos Chamber is a flash animation puzzle game created by Newgrounds.com user JoUBG, who has made the submission for his 21st birthday. The game's additional audio is by Astral Projection. This puzzle game was submitted to Newgrounds.com on December 1, 2009 and won a Daily 2nd Place award on December 2nd, 2009.

Gameplay

The objective of Chaos Chamber is to keep the blocks from piling up. To do this, you must click on a block that is surrounded by blocks of the same color. This will destroy all of the adjacent blocks that are the color that you clicked. If the blocks in one column pile all the way to the top, the blocks will create a permanent iron column that you cannot destroy. Blocks will continue falling down unless you pause the game by pressing spacebar. Another challenge that you must overcome is the fact that you cannot simply just click everywhere randomly, because if you click on a block that is not surrounded by the same color, the block you clicked on will turn into a stone block. Fortunately, stone blocks can be destroyed by lasers and bombs. Lasers and bombs appear randomly throughout the game and are dropped from the top like any other block. Lasers destroy either a row or column of blocks. Bombs destroy blocks in its vicinity. To activate either a laser or a bomb, simply click on it. Lasers look like little beams in a block, while bombs are stars. Other challenges in the game that must be overcome include when the blocks change color. This can be very disorienting to players, and may even cause seizures, so please play this game in a well-lit room and take a break if you're feeling fatigued. Also, the screen can flip over, causing the blocks to flip over as well. This can also be very disorienting, and the best players will learn to adapt to the situation as quickly as possible.

Once you lose, you can submit your score to a global leader board for some friendly competition with people all over the world. Your score and the level you were last on are displayed on this screen to let you see how well you did. You can also replay the game by clicking Replay. On this screen, you can also see that the game can be downloaded for offline play.

Game Review

Chaos Chamber is an exciting, fast-paced game that can be very addicting. The gameplay is quite fast but enjoyable. The techno music also goes well with the game's graphics and game concept, making the whole experience very entertaining.

Chaos Chamber scores a 9/10. The flashy graphics could be made less flashy to make it easier on the eyes.
