Review of Cheeseburger in Paradise Restaurant in Newark, Delaware

Joshua McMorrow-Hernandez
Jimmy Buffett's "Cheeseburger in Paradise" is no longer just a popular song -- it is a restaurant
offering...cheeseburgers. Jimmy Buffett's Cheeseburger in Paradise restaurant brings the relaxed island mood landside -- and provides plenty of tasteful plates for a decent price.

The Cheeseburger in Paradise restaurant I visited is located in Newark, Delaware, only a few miles south of Wilmington and a short drive on Interstate 95 from Philadelphia.

Cheeseburger in Paradise Offers More Than Just Cheeseburgers

You're probably thinking that a stop by Cheeseburger in Paradise means having to choose your meal from among a menu that includes only cheeseburgers. Well, while I did order a cheeseburger (how could I go the first time and NOT order one, after all!), I was also presented choices that include Jerk chicken sandwiches, BBQ ribs, coconut shrimp, fish tacos, and much more.

So, what about my Cheeseburger in Paradise? Truly good. I was impressed by the large beef patty, which the menu said is 100% fresh ground chuck. The Cheeseburger in Paradise comes with tomatoes, lettuce, and can be cooked to order. I always order my burgers well done.

The menu also states the ground beef burger can be substituted with a turkey or garden patty for no extra charge. Also of note is the hearty helping of french-fried potatoes and big kosher pickle that come with the order. The Cheeseburger in Paradise cost $8.95 and was worth the price. For 99 cents more, I ordered tangy Queso sauce to accompany the french fries.

Ambiance

When I walked into Cheeseburger in Paradise, the first thing that struck me was the restaurant's island-influenced interior. The flair is definitely Key West/Caribbean, with flashy colors and nautical appointments throughout. The staff at the Newark restaurant were very courteous and bright, and the service was fast. All the orders at the table were correct on the first try, which is always a plus. Heinz 57 ketchup, mustard, pepper and, yes, a shaker of salt is conveniently located on the table.

The restaurant includes a bar and outdoor patio dining. Prominently played in the background is music to keep the mood light and vibrant, including songs from Jimmy Buffett himself. There was also mention of live entertainment at the restaurant, but none was performing when I visited -- it was a Tuesday evening after all....

Put the cheeseburger down, Joshua, and step away from the cholesterol! Just kidding. I'm jealous.

The one on the water in Lahaina on Maui is truly out of this world... especially the onion rings! My license plate, along with hundreds of others, is on their wall! Nice memory - as I am going back there next month!!
