Review: Chicco Hook-On High Chair

Many parents realize after a few outings to restaurants that their child does not fancy sitting in a wooden highchair. Many parents also realize that sometimes a child feels left out while sitting in a regular high chair and wants to eat with the family. Or perhaps the parents have realized that having a portable high chair is very convenient when visiting friends or going out to eat. There are plenty of portable high chairs in the market, but some are better than others and there are some things you should know before buying one.

A few months ago, I decided to buy the Chicco Hook-On High Chair (retailing at $39.99). My daughter seemed a little lonely in her high chair and displayed a desire to be closer to us. I'd gotten Chicco brand products from friends and liked the quality.

The Chicco Hook-On High Chair weighs a mere 7 lbs, it's easy to fold and store, especially when you are travelling, has a washable padded seat and rubberized grips so it won't scratch up your table. It can safely hold a child of up to 37 lbs, which is superior over other similar hook-on high chairs. It is lightweight and easy to carry. Chicco also considers safety: the chair features a three point safety harness system. I've found that the seat is safe and sturdy. It uses a secure system designed to fasten to the bottom of table and has universal double locking system to keep the chair secured to the table. To clean up, you just throw the pad into your washing machine. It is durable, convenient and simple to use.

However, before you run out and buy this, you need to take a look at your table. It is designed for use on table tops up to 4 inches think with a 6 inch skirt. Hook-on high chairs are designed for tables that have four legs so that weight is evenly displaced. My table has just one thick trunk underneath and should I attempt to put this 7 lb chair and 22 lb baby on any side of my hexagon-shaped table,your babies weight could tip the table over if it becomes un-balanced. A lot of restaurant tables are the same way, with only one leg in the center. This is the drawback for such a convenient, safety-conscientious product.

Do NOT put your baby into this chair until they can sit up unassisted or if your table does not have four legs. The seat is soft and comfortable, which practically no nooks and crannies for food to hide. It's another wonderful product by Chicco...if you have the right table.
