I'm mostly pleased with my first Chicken Out meal. Not wowed, but pleased.

Chicken Out is a run-of-the-mill takeout venue with a sitdown option, similar to Boston Market, except that Chicken Out feels a little nicer. We're talking ambiance a little more Noodles & Co. than KFC. I went to the Chicken Out in McLean, Virginia (1443-A Chain Bridge Rd) on a Monday night around 7 PM for takeout. I didn't realize, but Chicken Out is a Washington DC-specific chain, with locations in the District, Alexandria, Reston, Columbia Crossing, Gaithersburg, Germantown, Pikesville, Potomac Village, and Rockville.

I received a decent amount of food with my $8 quarter chicken (white meat), a side of mashed potatoes and gravy, and biscuit. A quarter chicken sounds like a lot, but really it's just a breast and a wing. But with the quarter chicken, you get to work around bones, if you like that sort of thing. I prefer it that way, if I'm in the right mood. When you work for that last hidden morsel of chicken that you weren't expecting to exist, you feel like you've really accomplished something! (even though you haven't)

For a restaurant specializing in rotisserie chicken, I wasn't blown away by the chicken. It was good-sized, but a little bland. I had to add salt and pepper to get any flavor. It wasn't too dry though and had a bit of juice to it. Not bad by any means, but nothing special.

The mashed potatoes were solid. They leave a little skin in there, so they look like legit potatoes. Nothing from a mix here. And the gravy is good. Standard gravy, but with an almost sweet flavor to it.

The biscuit didn't wow me, but it wasn't bad. Tasted a little like it came from a Pillsbury box.

All in all, you could do worse for your $8. I've been sitting here for at least 5 minutes trying to decide if I prefer Chicken Out to Boston Market. I just can't decide, which leads me to conclude that they're pretty similar.
