I chose to take my daughter to her first theater experience at: The Players Club of Swarthmore. The Players Club is located at: 614 Fairview Ave. Swarthmore, PA 19081. Their website is: http://www.pcstheater.org/ The club is doing a children theater series which consists of four plays. The great thing I like about the plays is that they are reasonably priced. Ages 2 and under are free. Ages 3 & above are only ten dollars. The series of plays consists of: Alice in Wonderland, The Dancing Snowman, Jack & The Beanstalk and Sleeping Beauty. The shows are offered at times that really work for parents. For parents of older children, there are evening shows. For the younger crowd, there are 11AM weekend performances. I appreciate that the plays are on the weekends versus the busy weekdays.
The children play series is in the second theater, which is smaller in size. The chairs were arranged on risers which meant everyone had a great view. It was a very intimate setting, which all of the children seemed to enjoy. They also allowed for children to participate in certain parts of the play, by calling out words and the children in the audience really responded to this.
My daughter and I saw the Jack in the Beanstalk play. The play was suspenseful, funny and yet was not scary to the younger audience. The play was the perfect length of time for a child to sit through and my daughter just loved it. She is begging me to take her back to see Sleeping Beauty! After the show, children were allowed to go up on the stage to meet the performers. Many parents were taking photos and the kids were really enjoying it. After the play, they even had snack and juice. My daughter loves a good snack, so this was a hit with her.
If you are in the Delaware County PA area and looking for a theater experience for your child, I would suggest you check out the Players Club of Swarthmore. We really enjoyed it!
