We had been craving Chinese food for quite awhile and have not been able to find a place that serves this type of food. When driving down the freeway into The Dalles we noticed the restaurant sitting off the highway to our right. We went at 5 pm and expected it to be packed but they were able to sit us immediately.
The first thing we noticed was how friendly their staff was. They smiled and greeted us then offered us our drinks and made us feel very comfortable. Because it was my husbands birthday we were going to go all out and splurge. We ordered a cocktail from the open bar and a combination sampler platter.
The combination platter comes loaded with some of our favorites. This large platter was arrayed with six large fried shrimp, ten slices of barbecue, fried crab Rangoon and two over sized egg rolls. They bring out several bowls of sauces for you to use with your meal. They had sweet and sour, hot mustard and a bowl of sesame seeds.
The Crab Rangoon's were the best I've ever tasted. They were not over fried and they tasted so good and not bland tasting like so many I've tried in the past at other locations. The fried shrimp were very large and tasted so good and not greasy. The pork was okay but not my favorite and the egg rolls were again some of the best we've ever had.
Our main meal we decided on the combination plate with fried sweet and sour chicken and fried rice with pork chow mien. We had never eaten here before so we now know to order only one plate and share. They give you so much food that there is no way any one can eat it all. We still had to get a to go box.
The Pork Chow Mien comes loaded with fresh vegetables and crunchy cabbage. It's loaded with cabbage and pork and crunchy noodles unlike some that we have had that comes soggy. This is fresh and delightful and full of flavor. Their Sweet and Sour chicken was really fabulous as well and loaded with flavor and sweetness and it came with large pieces of chicken.
Their fried rice was very good and came loaded with vegetables such as peas and carrots and scrambled fried eggs. With just the right amount of seasoning this rice dish could be great by itself. I have never been to a restaurant that is this attentive and they constantly kept our water glasses full and our drink glasses full.
The restaurant, 2680 Old Columbia River Drive, has it regulars as you will be able to point them out because they very quickly order one combination dish and ask for two plates. They already know how large the portion sizes are. The restaurant was very clean and they have ample parking in front and around back.
I highly recommend this restaurant.
