Review: Cinema 8 in Claremore, Oklahoma

Faye Meadows
What makes a movie theater truly special? Is it the popcorn and soft drinks at the concession, the theater's service, or is it the enjoyment you feel while watching a movie on the big screen? All movie theaters have their quirks, and the Cinema 8 in Claremore, Oklahoma is no different. But, does the theater really establish itself as being unique?

When you first walk through the doors, you are automatically embraced by the whole movie theater atmosphere, however, there are a few noticeable drawbacks as well. One being the fact that the box office that once stood directly in front of the entrance doors when the theater first opened has been removed. You now have to purchase your tickets from the concession stand, which I really don't like very much. I rather preferred the ticket purchases being separate from the concession purchases, especially when there are only a few employees attending to both stations.

With your option of soft drinks, candy bars, popcorn, and other snack favorites, the concession seems to be no different than any other movie theater. And as expected, the cost for these concessions can get expensive. Considering the fact that the majority of movie theaters make their money from refreshments, it is not really a surprise. But, if you do enjoy having a drink and popcorn with your movie, then you probably won't mind forking over a few dollars.

The best part of any movie experience is when you finally get the chance to relax and enjoy the movie. Even though the movie screens are not as large as AMC Theaters, they still accomplish their goal of excellently delivering movies to audiences. The theater's seats are pretty comfortable, but they do not really seem to be designed for three hour movies. One of my favorite elements of the entire movie experience, besides actually watching the movie, is probably the movie facts and questions that are displayed upon the screen before the movie actually begins. I really find that this helps to pass time, and it also gives you something to talk about with your friends and family.

Claremore Cinema 8 is definitely a great entertainment attraction, especially considering the fact that the last movie theater in town was closed years ago. Even though the movie theater is nothing extraordinary, the addition of the theater actually gives me something to look forward to on the weekends. If you have ever been to Claremore before, you probably know that there are few entertainment businesses for young people, and I really believe that the this particular theater gives Claremore residents the chance to relax and enjoy their time away from school and their jobs. A truly excellent addition for both the town and for all the residents of Claremore.
